(Rhynchophorus Ferrugineus)Pine Trees Caterpillar
The annual infestation of Pine Trees (Pinus Pinea) by the processionary caterpillar begins to take effect in the end of summer.
This pest, which is found mainly in Mediterranean and Atlantic regions, causes extreme damage to the pine trees and also worrying skin irritations on humans and animals.
ECOSSISTEMAS has devised a biological product composed of bacteria, “Bacillus Thuringiensis”, which has no toxicity to people and the environment.
It is advisable that this treatment is initiated in the autumn to prevent the caterpillar from hatching in January and causing maximum damage.
If you are interested in treating your pine trees then please do not hesitate to contact us.Red Palm Weevil
A phyto-sanitary team from ECOVIVEIROS Garden Centre, was called out after concerns from a worried client that their majestic palm tree (a Phoenix Canariensis, 8mtrs tall), was showing extreme signs of wilting and distress. On examination, it was discovered to be slowly dying due to an infestation of Red Palm Weevil (Rhynchophorus Ferrugineus), an extremely preoccupying situation, as this shows that this pest which originated in India in 1891, and has over the last two centuries, been found in Egypt, Arabian Gulf countries, Spain (2004) has now arrived to Portugal, most notably, Albufeira and Silves area in the Algarve.
The Red Palm Weevil is the most dangerous and deadly pest of Date, Coconut, Oil, Sago and other Palms. There is no cure, only prevention.
Until the 1970´s, the pest was found only in the tropics. Since then it has destroyed the following: 1984 - Arabian Emirates – 200,000 palms1987 - Saudi Arabia – 200,000 palms1993 - Egypt – 270,000 palms 1995 - Malaga – 2000 palms2004 - Valencia – 220 palms
This is an extremely worrying situation, as a large proportion of this insect arriving to the European continent is due to the importation of palm trees from Egypt, where 22 out of 26 regions of the country are affected by the red palm weevil. In Spain, in 2004, an embargo was declared, prohibiting the sale of Valencian palm trees, which is the capital of Palm tree production in Europe. The transport of palms from already infected areas has contributed to the spread of this pest. Strict quarantine at international and national levels should be applied.
The weevil, of which in adult stage can be recognised by its very reddish, orange colour, commences flight when temperatures reach between 25º - 40º. It dislikes light, therefore it is difficult to detect, as it buries itself into the interior of the palm tree, where the female then lays between 200 – 300 eggs, which are the size of a grain of rice.
All stages (life cycle) are spent inside the palm. After the female lays the eggs, they hatch in 2-5 days into larvae (1.4cms in length), which then feed on the soft interior tissues of the palm. This larval period varies between 1-3 months, where the larvae then pupate inside an oval, cylindrical cocoon, made from fibrous strands, and dark brown in colour. After about 14 – 21 days, the adult weevil emerges.
There is no effective biological cure for this pest. The best method is preventative. The crowns of palm trees should be cleaned regularly, to prevent the accumulation of dead and decaying leaves. Avoid cuts and injuries to the palm. When cutting green leaves, cut them about 120cm away from the base. All dead palms or palms beyond recovery should be cut and burned to eradicate the pest inside.
The weevils can also be trapped by luring them into a trap bucket called a “Saudi Trap.” This is a 15lt bucket with sturdy walls with a 4cm diameter opening which contains a 5cm solution of water, sugar and a carbolic based insecticide and pieces of palm stem. This is then fixed to the trunk of the palm about 1.5m from the base. This pest is extremely difficult to detect without a thorough examination of the tree. We can be alerted to its presence by a sad, wilting appearance of the palm and new leaves showing a reddish colour.
have a team on hand to deal with all enquiries, and have already alerted the Ministry of Agriculture, where they are working in close conjunction to devise a plan on the controlling of this pest.

during the Summer of 1991.

Your children or grand-children will love the soft grass, your pets can run around and you won't have to clean mud off them and there's no lawn-mowing required.

As well as laying it in your garden, you can put fake grass on your balcony or on outdoor staircases. If you head out camping, it is a great surface for keeping the outside of the door of your tent or campervan mud-free, or why not lay fake grass on your roof garden? As you can tell, artificial grass is a great, practical way to brighten up grey, concrete spaces, reinvigorating them and giving them a new lease of life. You can see why more and more people are making the decision to install artificial grass in their spaces.

Benifits of Artificial Grass

The grass is durable, so that you can expect it to last particularly in areas of heavy usage, like walkways.

Just imagine no more slippery, muddy areas, no more muddy shoes or muddy dogs' paws to have to clean up! Also, no more replacing dead patches of grass. Installing fake grass means you will have a durable surface and gives you the benefit of reducing your cleaning list.

You only need to carry out light maintenance once the grass is installed, so no more lugging the lawn mower around, or getting down on your hands and knees to weed the grass.
This, of course, generates you savings on time and up-keep costs, and is particularly useful if maintenance isn't possible or practical.

Because you won't need to mow or water the grass, or even apply fertilisers or pesticides, you are helping the environment, and saving yourself money.
Because you don't need to water artificial grass, this is ideal where water is scarce or in hosepipe/sprinkler ban areas. For those on water meters it also offers a saving; during warm weather it's estimated that as much as 75% of residential water is used to irrigate lawns.

Uses of Artificial Grass

Artificial grass is an incredibly versatile product, which can be used in lawns to caravans and lots more!

Instead of paving your seating area, why not cover it with artificial grass? You will have a durable area on which to place your tables and chairs and a more serene covering to look over.

Pets love playing on artificial grass
If you have pets, artificial grass can be a brilliant surface. Dogs treat artificial grass as if it were real grass, playing happily, running around and doing their 'business' throughout the year, as previous customers have testified.

In fact, it can be such a good idea for those who have pets that some kennels have also installed artificial grass into their exercise runs.

The durable nature of the grass and the way it is constructed means that their urine drains through and faeces can be removed easily; the grass won't be harmed by their 'mess' and there won't be any staining or smells.

Plus, as there won't be any muddy patches, you won't need to clean muddy paws as they come back into the house. Brilliant!

Commercial Uses of Artificial Grass

Fake grass is great used indoors as well as outdoors.

Does your organisation currently have grass, but despairs at its maintenance or finds it has limited access to it because of the concern or damage you might cause to it?

You should consider replacing it with artificial grass. Artificial grass has been used successfully by a range of completely different companies and organisations.

Local councils and highway agencies have found it useful on roundabouts, verges and in parks, school nurseries like it for their playground, making it an all-year-round child-friendly facility. Projecto Jardins

existentes.

Artificial Grass for Residential Landscape - Why Artificial Grass

Our work at Pine Cliffs / Residences

Artificial Grass Supplier & Instalation in Algarve and Andaluzia

We are the largest stockist of artificial grass

Have you ever imagined having a perfectly green lawn all year round?
Have a look at the different types of grass we have available here at Artificial Grass , and see how we can help you achieve this dream of a stunning lawn. We are sure that you will find something suitable for your needs, whether it is to accommodate pets or children, deal with damp or shady patches where grass just doesn't grow, or if you are just looking for easy maintenance.

If you are looking for fake turf to buy at an economic cost to make your garden beautiful, look no further. We are an artificial lawn company that is both a manufacturer and a supplier of synthetic grass and, as well as offering excellent products we are able to share our wealth of experience.

high quality artificial grass and products are sold worldwide in over 80 countries. Including Africa and Europe.

Where to buy and get advice on installation, or buying our goods, see Installers and Stockists our full product range.

Artificial grass makes economic sense in parts of the world where water is scarce and expensive. One recent customer has seen their monthly summer water bill reduce from €1200 right down to €40. Now that is a result.

Your garden looks good all year round
No maintenance
No irrigation
Property value enhanced
Our domestic grass is ideal for lawns. Our leisure grass for play areas, patios and golf putting practice.

What we can offer that others cannot :
What we can offer that others cannot :
We can supply instantly from our stock
We do not need large amounts of your money up front. 20% secures your grass. The balance due 5 days before collection.
We have unique accessories to make your job quicker and easier
Self Adhesive Tape. 13m x 18 cm
Turf Pins (19cm length, Galvanized)
If you find out your installation needs just a few m2 extra for completion we will accommodate you. ( This saves you buying more than you need)

Why Artificial Grass ?
If you are fed up with muddy lawns in winter and lawn-mowing in summer, artificial grass gives you the chance to sit back and enjoy all-year-round green.

Experts at ECOPRO-MIX® offer these five tips for creating healthy garden beds before Memorial Day guests arrive.
Prepare the soil before planting. Blend one or two inches of a soilless garden mix that contains peat humus, compost and a slow release fertilizer into the soil.
Choose plants that will last all season, such as summer annual flowers or tropical plants with bright foliage. Make sure to pick sun loving plants for sunny spots and shade loving plants where they get less than 4 hours of sun per day.
Choose a good soilless mix. Soil in containers can dry out quickly in the summer heat. "Choose a potting mix created for containers," PIEDADE said. "Look for a product like ECOPRO-MIX® Ultimate Potting Mix that contains a gel designed to hold water in reserve, releasing it as the surrounding mix dries, thereby reducing the need to water as much."
Create one show-stopping container. "Instead of filling the entire yard with flowers, plant up one big, beautiful container and place it in a central spot where Memorial Day guests will congregate," suggests MIGUEL PIEDADE.
Apply plant strengtheners to established plants to prepare them for the stressful summer ahead.
Many of ECOPRO-MIX® growing mixes come fortified with MycoActive™, a natural plant beneficial that helps roots take in more water and nutrients, helping them be more resistant to growing stresses so they can stay happy and healthy all season long. Look for the ECOMycoActive™ symbol on the bag

A perfect time for cookouts, family celebrations and backyard parties. While some regions are still covered in snow, others are beginning to see hints of spring! That said, it’s a great time for you to roll up your sleeves for some garden maintenance for spring. Once you’re done, your lawn will be all set to be the perfect venue for family get-togethers and some fun times with friends!
Clean and Repair
If you had taken all the appropriate measures for a winter garden, chances are your garden will be in good state. All you will need to do is some maintenance get it back in shape for spring. Identify problem areas like dead grass, leaves and wet soil and clear them up. Uneven ground can be a problem so make sure your ground is even. Low areas can cause drainage problems where soil can collect and thicken. Use a garden fork to aerate the area to loosen the soil for better drainage and to allow roots to grow.
Plant Some Fresh Grass
The harsh winter is likely to have taken a toll on your lawn. So bring it back to life by planting some fresh grass. Reseed areas of the grass that may have gone dead or brown. It’s good to get a soil test to check if it’s in the right condition to be reseeded. Once done, check for different varieties of seeds that will go well with the climate in the region. Make sure to keep a regular check on the grass after you’ve planted the seeds.
Fertilize to Keep the Weeds Away
When you’ve planted grass, your job isn’t done yet. Use a good quality fertilizer to keep the weeds away from eating away your spring garden. Fertilizing the garden replenishes the nutrients that your garden needs to become healthy. It is important fertilize the lawn every few weeks during spring. Make sure you apply the right quantity of fertilizer to the grass to keep the weeds away and water it too.
Water the Grass
For a healthy, lush green lawn, it’s important to regularly water your plants and grass. Water your lawn every other day to ensure the plants and flowers are healthy and get nutrition. It is recommended to use sprinklers if you have a big garden. Sprinklers spray water evenly in their own radius, so you don’t have to worry about some areas getting less water than others.
Keep the Maintenance Equipment in Top Shape
It’s not only the lawn, plants and soil that make the garden beautiful but the tools that you use for garden maintenance are equally important as well. Make sure you have the lawn mower repaired, oiled and cleaned. Use a putty knife to clean the lawn mowing equipment and replace the filter too. Clean the blade to check if there is any rust or debris on it from previous year.

Publicado 26th March por Ecossistemas , Arqª.
