Protect That Radiant Summertime Smile!

Radiant Summertime smile, Girl jumping in the air on a beach with hands raised and big smile

With the start of summer already peaking its head around the corner, here are a few tips to help protect that Radiant Summertime Smile!

Sunscreen Is Not Just For Your Body. Summer heat can cause dry, chapped lips. Protecting your lips with a lip balm or lip gloss with moisture and SPF protection is important. Damage to our lips can lead to oral cancer down the road. Try to use lip protection with an SPF rating of at least 15.

Staying Hydrated. This is good for your entire body but can especially be true when snacking and drinking by the pool or beach. Keeping our mouths hydrated will help protect against tooth decay and keep our oral tissues moist and prevent them from drying out. Also, drinking water will help wash clear any sugary/acidy build up from snacks, drinks and fruit.

Swim Wisely. Many people are unaware the damage swimming in a pool can cause on our dental health. High chlorine content can actually cause tooth enamel erosion so swimming in the ocean is actually a better option. The high salt water content can actually reduce oral bacteria. Remember to brush and rinse regularly after a dip in the pool to help limit the possible damage to your Radiant summertime smile.

Do Not Forget Breakfast. People often forget the most important meal of the day especially in the summer. Skipping breakfast can lead to increased snacking on unhealthy items. Maintain a regular schedule of meals to stay healthy all summer.

There are many ways to protect our teeth and the above is to name a few... What other tricks or tips might you have to share? I'd be interested to hear!

If you'd like to get that Radiant Summertime Smile or would like some more information call us today for a free consultation.

We have centres all around the UK, visit www.dentalcareplus.org.uk or call us on 0800 542 2183 to discuss your requirements with one of our practice managers.

Keep Smiling.
How To Detox From Fluoride http://b4in.org/aHW5

In today’s world, fluoride is hard to avoid completely. Here’s how to detox your body.

Adding fluoride to the water supplies has been called murder on a grand scale. But whether or not your town adds it to your drinking water, you’re probably ingesting this toxin every day.

You’re exposed to fluoride if you take prescription drugs like Prozac, swim in pools, or sit in hot tubs. It’s in conventional produce like lettuce, and commercial bread and bakery products. It may be in beverages like iced tea, wine, and beer made with municipal water, or in infant formula. And of course it’s in toothpaste. It may even sneak into your food from Teflon coated pots and pans.

In addition to increasing the risk of death, fluoride also calcifies the pineal gland and hardens the arteries. And it increases the risk of hypothyroidism.

Minimizing your exposure to fluoride is important. But in today’s world, this toxin is hard to avoid completely. That’s why it’s critical to detox your body from fluoride.

Iodine Flushes Out Fluoride

Cleansing your system of fluoride is not the same as getting rid of mercury or arsenic. Fluoride is not a heavy metal. It’s a halide in the same family as bromine and chlorine. Fluoride, bromine, chlorine, and perchlorate all bind to iodine receptors in the body and displace iodine.

Perchlorate is a man-made molecule combining oxygen and chlorine. It’s used for rocket fuel and industrial processes and contaminates our water supplies.

According to Dr. Mark Sircus, the only effective way to detox from perchlorate, fluoride or other halides is with iodine.[i] Chelation and other methods for heavy metal detox may not be as effective.

Loading the body with iodine displaces fluoride from cell receptors and flushes the fluoride out of the body in urine.

More http://b4in.org/aHW5
25 Tests and Observations that Show the Benefits of Structured Water

At Natural Action Technologies, Inc., we have had the pleasure to see, hear, and feel how structured water is changing lives and the world for the better. This is not just from our tests and validation. We have received feedback from hundreds of satisfied, sometimes amazed, believers and disbelievers in the Natural Action structuring units.

We thought it interesting to list as many benefits of structured water and structured water units as possible from our own research and that of others.

Note that many of these are substantiated consistently, others only a few times, or maybe just once. In this way, the distributors and customers can begin to prove to themselves how structured water units can change the liquid medium
and more.

Here is a first offering of 25 tests and observations that you can do to share in the fun and adventure of structured water units from Natural Action Technologies. Enjoy!

1 - Leaf Longevity Test - This test requires two plants of the same species. Water one plant with structured water. Water the other with non- structured tap water. Continue this for 30 days. Pluck two leaves of the plants and set aside for observation. Compare the leaves each day for flexibility and dryness. The leaves of our non-structured “test” vines started turning to parchment in 4 days. It was day 9 before the structured leaves started becoming dry and showing signs of any cracking. This demonstrates beautifully how structured water improves hydration and preserves life. What do you find?

2 - Hard Water Soap Test - This is a good test for people living in hard water areas. Find two clean quart jars with lids. Place one cup of the regular tap water in one jar and one cup of the “structured” tap water in the other. Place a teaspoon of soap in each jar. Place the lid back on and then shake each jar. The structured water will deliver an obviously greater amount of soap upon shaking, whereas before there was very little or none. How’s it shaking with your hard water?

3 - Rose Growing Challenge – Water your roses daily with the structured water from one NAT house unit. Notice how they grow. Are they bigger, healthier, and more fragrant than before? For a real energy blast, try four house units inline. After just two months’ time, we’ve watched rose leaders grow from less than 9 feet tall to heights of 11’ with the daily application of water from 4 inline house units. The flowers went from 6 feet up to the 8 foot level. The highly energetic water from multiple inline units enhances the growing capabilities of any plant or animal.

4 - Swimming Pool Water Test – This is a very interesting test with a structured water unit. Place water from a chlorinated swimming pool in a quart jar. Hold the water to your chest and muscle test the strength of a strong arm. (You don’t have to be skilled in muscle testing to do this one.) Follow these instructions:
Test the person’s relative baseline strength. Simply hold an arm straight out in front of a person. Keep the straight arm (elbow straight, wrist relaxed) at a 90 degree angle to the chest. Now, check their baseline strength. Have the person being tested slowly raise their arm up into the palm of your hand for a couple of seconds to see and feel their strength. Now, begin to SLOWLY press down and feel their strength. For more fun, have others witness. In the baseline, it will be strong or strong enough.

Now repeat the exact same test. This time have the person hold the jar to their chest under their chin and maybe even inhale a little smell of the water.

(Do not inhale to deep.) This time when you perform the same muscle test, what happens? Did it go weak? It will consistently go from the previously strong test to weak because of the chlorine toxins in the pool water weakening the body.

Now, structure the same sample into a similar jar and hold it against your chest again. Also, inhale the smell of the water. Still smell the same? Now, as you perform the same exact strength test as the previous two tests, what did you notice? Did your arm go weak or stay strong this time? We have found the arm goes back to strength consistently because the structuring device has neutralized the toxins in the water sample and created an energetic change in the water.
The “structuring” does not allow the bodies’ energetics to go weak.

5 - The Coffee Challenge – Every coffee drinker knows how great his or her coffee is! Do a side-by-side comparison of the coffee you drink everyday versus your coffee “structured”. What do your tongue and other senses tell you? Notice how the structured coffee has a smoother, cleaner taste? We have had coffee drinking fans buy the structured water unit after tasting the improved, cleaner flavor to their own bean in one cup of coffee! For extra credit, do the same muscle test before and after structuring as you did in #4 above.

6 - Dissolving Calcium Test - Does structured water dissolve calcium deposits on sprinkler heads and fountains? Use of structured units on calcified sprinklers and fountains showed the continued removal of calcium buildup to the point where there was no more need for cleaning or replacement of the sprinkler heads.
With the application of a structured water unit, how are your misters doing after one or two months?

7 - Window Streak Test (Tap vs. Structured Water) – Spray your windows with both kinds of water. Which ones develop spots from leftover calcium drops?

The ability of structured water to put calcium into solution results in less spotting on the glass. This test varies depending on how much structuring power and the type of water you are using. The more structuring to the water, the better the effect.

8 - Three Day Tomato Plant Test – Rain down structured water over your tomato plants daily for three days. Is there an explosion of growth and blooms in your tomato plants?

9 - Asthma Improvement – What happens when a person with asthma drinks two cups of structured water in 15 minutes? Upon drinking just one glass of structured water, an elderly gentleman, with raspy breathing, noticed his breathing become easier and less strained. His raspy inhale sounded quite a bit smoother too.
His friends in the room noticed it too, from 8 to 10 feet away.

10 - Beer Head Expansion - Does the “head” on your beer expand enormously upon structuring? What’s up with this increase when beer is structured? Is this due to the overall increase in energy and oxygenation? Beer drinkers will consistently enjoy this one! Only structure a couple ounces if you like your beer with carbonation. Otherwise the beer will go flat. Which begs this question, if structuring brings to the liquid what is good for life, AND, it removes carbonation…Hmmm, Is carbonation good for life?

11 - Brix Test – This requires the tester to have a refractometer available. These can be purchased online for about $35.00. The refractometer is a handheld device that shows sugar and nutritional content of a fruit through a numbered scale inside an optical viewer in the shape of a monocular. Examine your growing fruit crop with a refractometer. Here’s how: Squeeze the juice from the fruit onto the glass of the refractometer and cover the drops with the lid. What number is reading in the eyepiece at the blue and white line? This is your Brix reading. Measure the current Brix reading on a number of growing fruit. Now, water the plant with structured water and in three days take another Brix reading. What did you find?
Compare your numbers with Brix charts for the fruit you are reading. Is it Poor, Average, Good, or Excellent?
We’ve heard from growers whose Brix readings jumped upwards a couple numbers in just two to three days of structured water! This has incredible significance for the world of human and animal nutrition when the Brix tests are high! A high Brix reading is a blessing for mankind. Simply put, the higher the Brix, the greater the nutrition, the healthier the human.

12 - Human Kidney Factor – As a person drinks structured water, what happens to their kidneys, their rate of urination, and urination state in general? What do you notice as you feel the water system in your body responding to this new kind of water? Is this alone a new experience for everyone trying structured water?

13 - Cow Milk Production Observations - Water your dairy herd with structured water. What do you find in the following list?
• Infection states cleared out?
• Increased milk production?
• Increased bio-availability of nutrients?
• Increased feed efficiency?
• Increased daily weight gain?
• Improved cow and calf health?
• Increased hydration?
• Increased tolerances to temperature extremes?
• Reduced birthing complications?
• Increased calf livability?
We have already heard from owners of herds eliminating the E. coli in their milk with the simple application of structured water.

14 - Lawn Mower on Overdrive?
Structured Water vs. RO/Tap Water on the Lawn - Which lawns display greater growth and greener grass? … Structured watered or non-structured? Do you use less or no fertilizer? We regularly see how green the lawn becomes when structured water is added to the yard, often while the lawn is being watered. Compare your structured watered lawn to another part of your yard watered with tap water? Is there a difference? Do you have to push or ride your lawnmower more frequently? This is one downside we have found to structured water!

15 - Microwave Water Test – Microwaved water causes one to test weak using a muscle test just like the previous #4 Chlorine test, suggesting it is toxic to
human life.
Can you see and feel the change when you perform this muscle test with microwaved water?
It also shows a strange nucleus on a Gas Discharge Visualization (GDV) camera, much different than structured water before it is put in the microwave. When one structures the water, it will cause one to regain their muscle test strength,
The swimming pool. This was long before chlorinated water, so water was pumped in, heated, the people swam, and then the pool had to be drained. Currently, it has a leak, so it is no longer filled.
3 Everyday Activities Where Your Silver Jewellery Needs Some Extra TLC

Thanks to its hardwearing nature and versatility, many of our sterling silver jewellery pieces are accessories that we couldn’t bear to be without. However, without the right care, some of the big and small activities that we love (or hate) to undertake can actually inflict damage on our most cherished pieces.

As experts in silver sterling jewellery, we understand what it takes to make our favourite silver pieces last a lifetime. Here we take a look at three common activities where your sterling silver may need some extra care to protect it from unnecessary wear and tear.

Household chores

Whilst completing regular spring cleaning isn’t our favourite past time, it’s a must for households ofall sizes. However the harsh cleaning chemicals used to buff our homes to perfection don’t work the same wonders for our silver jewellery. Always remove your jewellery before commencing your household chores. The same theory applies when washing up or completing DIY.

Hitting the town

We all love a good night outwith the girls or the boys, and whilst we all have our own routines to get ready, there’s one ritual that should be followed by all silver jewellery wearers. From bathing and showering to applying make-up and finishing off your do with a spritz of hairspray and perfume, removing your jewellery is vital. You should put your rings, bracelets and necklaces back on just before you head out the door to avoid wear and tear.
Whether you are painting the town red or not, subjecting your silver to regular cleaning with a mild soap and water solution is a must. Natural oils, soap and dust can settle on jewellery, and even if it can’t be seen by the naked eye, causes silver to become dull. Regular cleaning and buffing ensures you can retain that shine, no matter how old your favourite piece is.

Your fitness regime

When it comes to fitness, every enthusiast knows that preparation makes perfect and the same sentiment applies to your jewellery use at the gym, swimming pool or out on the field. The chlorine found in every swimming pool is particularly harmful to silver pieces, and exposure over a prolonged period can cause irreversible damage to silver and the gemstones set within.

Perspiration can also impact on the condition of your sterling silver jewellery too due to its acidity so exercise caution and remove before starting your workout.

If in doubt…

Taking precautionary measures to keep your cherished silver jewellery in tip-top condition is relatively easy. We’ve covered 3 everyday activities in this blog however there will undoubtedly be many more scenarios that will play havoc with your silver jewels. If in doubt, always remove your jewellery and store it in a safe place.

Swimming in pools in which chlorine content hasn’t been carefully regulated may lead to dental erosion — loss of hard tissue from the surface of the tooth. It may also leave teeth discoloured and more sensitive.
Chlorine reacts with water to produce a weak form of hydrochloric acid, which can wear down teeth!
Pools should have their chlorine levels checked regularly. While swimming, keep your mouth closed to avoid exposing teeth to chlorinated water.

#DentalFacts #Chlorine

HAND SKIMMER: A screen attached to a frame which is then attached to a telescopic pole used to remove large floating debris, such as leaves and bugs, from the water's surface.

HEATER: A fossil-fueled, electric or solar device used to heat the water of a pool, hot tub or hot tub.

NEUTRALIZER: A chemical used to make chlorine or bromine harmless. Used in test kits to counteract the bleaching effect of the chlorine or bromine in order to increase the accuracy of pool water tests. Sold as chlorine and bromine neutralizer, it is used to destroy excessive amounts of chlorine or bromine so the high levels will not affect swimmers.

OXIDIZER: A non-chlorine shocking compound that removes or destroys built-up contaminants and chloramines in pool water without raising chlorine levels.

PUMP: A mechanical device, usually powered by an electric motor, which causes hydraulic flow and pressure for the purpose of filtration, heating and circulation of pool and hot tub water. Typically, a centrifugal pump is used for pools, spas and hot tubs.

PUMP CAPACITY: The volume of liquid a pump is capable of moving during a specified period of time. This is usually listed in gallons per minute or gpm.

pH: Abbreviation for Potential Hydrogen. Indicates the level of acidity or alkalinity of water on a scale ranging from 0-15. A low pH can cause etched plaster, metal corrosion and eye irritation. A high pH can cause scale formation, chlorine inefficiency and eye irritation. The ideal range for pH in swimming pools is typically 7.4 to 7.6.

SANITIZERS: Chemical compounds designed to kill bacteria, algae and other living organisms. Also protects water from the effects of the sun.

SHOCK TREATMENT: The practice of adding significant amounts of an oxidizing chemical -- (usually non-chlorine oxidizers, such as sodium persulfate or potassium peroxymonosulfate) -- to the water to destroy ammonia and nitrogen compounds caused by swimmers, the environment and/or weather.

SKIMMER: A device installed through the wall of a pool or hot tub that is connected to the suction line of the pump that draws water and floating debris in the water flow from the surface without causing much flow restriction.

SKIMMER BASKET: A removable, slotted basket or strainer placed in the skimmer on the suction side of the pump, which is designed to trap floating debris in the water flow from the surface without causing flow restriction.

TEST KIT: An apparatus or device used to monitor specific chemical residuals, levels, constituents or demands in pool or hot tub water. The most common pool and hot tub water tests are: pH, total alkalinity, free available chlorine, water hardness, cyanuric acid, iron and copper.

TURBIDITY: The cloudy condition of the water due to the presence of extremely fine particles in suspension that cannot be trapped by the filter because they are too small. Adding a clarifier, such as an organic polymer or alum, will coagulate the particles and make the filter more efficient.

WATER CLARIFIER: Also called coagulant or flocculant . A chemical compound used to gather (coagulate or agglomerate) or to precipitate suspended particles so they may be removed by vacuuming or filtration. There are two types; inorganic salts of aluminum (alum) and other metals or water-soluble organic polyelectrolytes.

WEIR: The small floating "door" on the side of the skimmer that faces the water over which water flows on its way to the skimmer. Adjusts automatically to small changes in water level to assure a continuous flow of water to the skimmer. The weir also prevents debris from floating back into the pool after the pump shuts off. Also known as a skimmer weir.">GLOSSARY OF POOL TERMS from swimmingpool.com #poolcare

AIR-RELIEF VALVE: A manually-operated valve located at the top of a filter tank for relieving the pressure inside the filter and removing the air inside the filter (bleeding the filter). Also known as a pressure-relief valve.

ALGAE: Microscopic plant-like organisms that contain chlorophyll. Algae is nourished by carbon dioxide (CO2) and use sunlight to carry out photosynthesis. It can be introduced by rain or wind and grows in colonies, producing nuisance masses. Algae can harbor bacteria and can be slippery. There are thousands of known species of algae. The most common types of algae found in pools are black, blue-green, green and mustard .

ALGAECIDES: Chemical compounds designed to kill, prevent and control algae.

AUTOMATIC POOL CLEANER: A pool maintenance system that will agitate and/or vacuum debris from the pool interior automatically.

BACKFLOW: The backing up of water through a pipe in the direction opposite to normal flow.

BACKWASH: The process of thoroughly cleaning the filter by reversing the flow of water through it with the dirt and rinse water going to waste.

BALANCERS: Chemical compound designed to prevent corrosion and staining by balancing the pH, total alkalinity and calcium hardness in pool water.

BROMIDE: A common term for a bromide salt used to supply bromide ions to the water so they may be oxidized or changed into hypobromous acid. Used as a disinfectant.

BROMINE: A common name for a chemical compound containing bromine that is used as a disinfectant to destroy bacteria and algae in swimming pools and spas.

CENTRIFUGAL PUMP: A pump consisting of an impeller fixed on a rotating shaft and enclosed in a casing or volute and having an inlet and a discharge connection. The rotating impeller creates pressure in the water by the velocity derived from the centrifugal force.

CHECK VALVE: A mechanical device in a pipe that permits the flow of water or air in one direction only.

CHEMICAL FEEDER: A device that dispenses chemicals into pool or hot tub water at a predetermined rate. Some dispense chlorine or bromine while others dispense pH-adjusting chemicals.

CHLORINE NEUTRALIZER: A chemical used to make chlorine harmless. Used in test kits to counteract the bleaching effect of the chlorine or bromine in order to increase the accuracy of pool water tests. Sold as chlorine and bromine neutralizer, it is used to destroy excessive amounts of chlorine or bromine so the high levels will not affect swimmers.

CHLORINE: A term used to describe any type of chlorine compound used as a disinfectant in swimming pool and hot tub water or to kill, destroy or control bacteria and algae. In addition, chlorine oxidizes ammonia and nitrogen compounds cause by swimmers.

COPING: The cap or top lip on the pool or hot tub wall that provides a finished edge around the pool or spa.

CORROSION: The etching, pitting or eating away of the pool or hot tub or equipment. Can be caused by improper water balance, misuse of acid or acidic products or from soft water.

COVER, SOLAR: A cover that, when placed on the water's surface of a pool, hot tub or hot tub, increases the water temperature by absorption and transmission of solar radiation; reduces evaporation and prevents debris from entering the water.

D.E.: Diatomaceous Earth — a porous substance used in certain types of pool filters.

DRAIN: This term usually refers to a plumbing fitting installed on the suction side of the pump in pools, spas and hot tubs. Sometimes called the main drain, it is located in the deepest part of the pool, hot tub or hot tub. It does not function like a drain on a kitchen sink. Pool main drains do not allow the water to drain to waste but rather connect to the pump for circulation and filtration.

FIBERGLASS: Finespun filaments of glass which are available in a rope or mat form. When used in a process with polyester resins, catalysts and hardeners, can be formed or molded into pools and spas.

FILTER: A device that removes dissolved or suspended particles from water by recirculating the water through a porous substance (a filter medium or element). Modern day cholera epidemics in Peru, China, India or Africa exemplify the devastating consequences of poor sanitation.

Chlorine also plays a critical role in the productions of thousands of commercial products. Products reliant on chlorine’s unique properties include every household item such as bleach and disinfectant to bullet-resistant vests, computer hardware, silicon chips and automotive parts.

Chlorine itself is a gas at room temperature. Ordinary table salt (sodium chloride, NaCl) is half chlorine, and a simple electrochemical reaction with salt water produces chlorine gas easily. That same reaction produces sodium hydroxide (NaOH), and by mixing chlorine gas with sodium hydroxide you create sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). When you buy a gallon of bleach at the grocery store, what you are buying is the chemical sodium hypochlorite mixed with water in a 5.25-percent solution. You're buying salt water that has been changed slightly by electricity.

Chlorine is chlorine, so the chlorine in bleach is the same as the chlorine in drinking water and in a swimming pool. In fact, you can use chlorine bleach to treat a swimming pool or to treat drinking water. A gallon of bleach provides 1 part per million (PPM) of chlorine to 60,000 gallons (about 250,000 liters) of water. Typically, a pool is treated at a rate of 3 PPM, and drinking water is treated at anywhere from 0.2 PPM to 3 PPM depending on the level of contamination and the contact time.

Chlorine is used in pools and drinking water because it is a great disinfectant. It is able to kill bacteria and algae, among other things. Chlorine also makes a great stain remover, but not because of the chlorine itself. Natural stains (as well as dyes) produced by everything from mildew to grass come from chemical compounds called chromophores. Chromophores can absorb light at specific wavelengths and therefore cause colors. When chlorine reacts with water, it produces hydrochloric acid and atomic oxygen. The oxygen
Chlorine is a chemical element with symbol Cl and atomic number 17. Chlorine is in the halogen group (17) and is the second lightest halogen following fluorine. The element is a yellow-green gas under standard conditions, where it forms diatomic molecules. Chlorine has the highest electron affinity and the third highest electronegativity of all the reactive elements. For this reason, chlorine is a strong oxidizing agent. Free chlorine is rare on Earth, and is usually a result of direct or indirect oxidation by oxygen.

The most common compound of chlorine, sodium chloride (common salt), has been known since ancient times. Around 1630 chlorine gas was first synthesized in a chemical reaction, but not recognized as a fundamentally important substance. Characterization of chlorine gas was made in 1774 by Carl Wilhelm Scheele, who supposed it to be an oxide of a new element. In 1809, chemists suggested that the gas might be a pure element, and this was confirmed by Sir Humphry Davy in 1810, who named it from Ancient Greek: χλωρóς khlôros “pale green”.

Nearly all chlorine in the Earth's crust occurs as chloride in various ionic compounds, including table salt. It is the second most abundant halogen and 21st most abundant chemical element in Earth's crust. Elemental chlorine is commercially produced from brine by electrolysis. The high oxidizing potential of elemental chlorine led commercially to free chlorine's bleaching and disinfectant uses, as well as its many uses of an essential reagent in the chemical industry. Chlorine is used in the manufacture of a wide range of consumer products, about two-thirds of them organic chemicals such as polyvinyl chloride, as well as many intermediates for production of plastics and other end products which do not contain the element. As a common disinfectant, elemental chlorine and chlorine-generating compounds are used more directly in swimming pools to keep them clean and sanitary.

In the form of chloride ions, chlorine is necessary to all known species of life. Other types of chlorine compounds are rare in living organisms, and artificially produced chlorinated organics range from inert to toxic. In the upper atmosphere, chlorine-containing organic molecules such as chlorofluorocarbons have been implicated in ozone depletion. Small quantities of elemental chlorine are generated by oxidation of chloride to hypochlorite in neutrophils, as part of the immune response against bacteria. Elemental chlorine at high concentrations is extremely dangerous and poisonous for all living organisms, and was used in World War I as the first gaseous chemical warfare agent.

Pool water in Burbank is repurposed to help aid drought relief

After the final splash into Burbank’s McCambridge Pool as summer’s swimming season ended, the more than 200,000 gallons of water didn’t just gurgle down the drain. With California locked in severe drought, city officials decided to put the water that’d brought so much fun to work. “It’s the first year we’ve done this,” said Bonnie Teaford, the city’s Public Works director. “We were thinking about how we could use the water. It’s the worse drought we’ve had in California in a long time, and it seemed like the right thing to do.” And with that, officials watered the adjacent baseball diamond, the city landfill, the sewers and even city hall. It turned out to be a relatively simple process that involved calculating how many tanker trucks would be needed for the recycling effort. The first task was getting the chlorine out of the water, but for that, the city had time on its side. “Basically, you stop adding chlorine, and it slowly degrades (over) time. So we tested it, and by the time we were ready to discharge it, it was not detectable,” Teaford said. “There are chemicals you can use to de-chlorinate the water, but we let Mother Nature [...]
http://newsinca.com/pool-water-in-burbank-is-repurposed-to-help-aid-drought-relief/
Salt Systems (Salt-Chlorine Generators) for Inground and Aboveground Swimming Pools

You can say goodbye to harsh chemicals & chlorine odor, and irritated eyes when you use a salt system (Salt-chlorine generator) to sanitize your swimming pool. Salt chlorine generators use ordinary salt to naturally produce pure chlorine. By doing so, salt water chlorine generation provides the sanitization necessary to keep pool water clean without the need for handling or frequent monitoring of chlorine. As a result, pool owners who use salt chlorine generators can enjoy remarkable convenience and safety in addition to sparkling clean, crystal clear swimming water that's soft, silky - and much less effort than traditional sanitizers.

Specialty Pool Products' line of swimming pool supplies includes a diverse selection of high quality swimming pool salt chlorine generators from trusted brand names such as Hayward, Jandy, Intex, Blue Essence and others. With today's models capable of sanitizing up to 50,000 gallons, every swimming pool owner can enjoy the benefits and advantages that come with using a salt chlorine generator to achieve and maintain beautifully clean, inviting swimming pool water.

Salt-Chlorine Generators are safe for use in all pool surfaces, including fiberglass, vinyl, plaster, and concrete swimming pools and provide for easy yet effective pool maintenance. By evenly dispersing chlorine and by providing simple adjustment of chlorine output, salt chlorine generators allow pool owners to spend more time enjoying their pool rather than dealing with harsh, dangerous chemicals. Similarly, Salt Systems are exceptionally safe and easy to use, and will provide consistently clean, silky water. How do they work? Typically, salt systems utilize a natural electrolytic process to generate pure chlorine. The salt concentration is very low (less than a teaspoon per gallon of pool water), but it's sufficient to generate free chlorine, naturally! The chlorine continuously kills algae, bacteria & contaminants, then reverts back to salt & the process repeats. There's less time spent on maintenance, less money spent on chemicals and they're fast & easy to install on both new existing swimming pools.

Specialty Pool Products' selection of salt water chlorine generators includes models for both Inground and Aboveground pools:

Salt Systems (Salt-Chlorine Generators) for Inground Swimming Pools:
Goldine AquaRite
Autopilot
Hayward SwimPure
Jandy AquaPure Ei
Hayward Salt & Swim

Salt Systems (Salt-Chlorine Generators) for Inground Swimming Pools:
Intex
AquaTrol
ChlorEase
Simpl-Chlor
Saltron Retro

All of our salt chlorine generators will provide automatic, natural pool sanitization and are available at competitive prices.

Summer Hair Rehab
Is your summertime fun in the sun taking a toll on your hair? From color fading to turning once-healthy hair into a dull, dry mess, too much sun leads to lots of bad hair days.

Add in exposure to chlorine and saltwater and your hair needs some rehab, stat! We’ve got the solutions to bring your hair back from the brink!

How Sun Damages Hair
Few things can be as enjoyable as a warm, sunny summer day spent outdoors. But as nice as a sunny day makes us feel, too much sun exposure can be nearly as bad for hair as it is for skin!

When sunlight hits hair, it immediately begins breaking down hair’s protective layer, the cuticle. Think of this layer like shingles on a roof; what happens when the shingles degrade? Your roof lets unwanted substances (like water) in, and damage occurs.

As the sun breaks down hair’s cuticle layer, it exposes the more delicate inner portion of the hair, which is even more vulnerable to damage, including protein breakdown (hair is mostly composed of dead proteins) and color loss, whether hair is dyed or not. (Source: http://goo.gl/3eWY0i.)

With repeated, ongoing exposure to UVA and UVB radiation from the sun, your hair gradually becomes weaker, breaks easily, and its texture changes from silky-smooth to dry and rough. (Source: http://goo.gl/zB1lmQ.)

It’s even worse if you dye or highlight your hair! Hair color fades due to oxidation brought on by sun exposure, so gray hair can become “bleached”, silver-white hair can take on a brassy or yellowish tinge, reds lose their vibrancy, brunette hair goes drab, and hair becomes dry, frizzy, and generally a lot less manageable from the cascade of damage. A hat is looking pretty good right about now! (Source: http://goo.gl/STQ2TA.)

How Chlorine Damages Hair
Chlorine is an effective disinfectant necessary to keep swimming pool water clean, but it does a number on skin, eyes, and especially hair that’s not protected by a silicone-based product (see recommended options below) or a swim cap.

A swim cap isn’t the most attractive option nor is it a bulletproof shield against chlorinated water, but can significantly protect hair from the ravages of chlorine.

One other thing you can do before putting on a swim cap and silicone serum is to wet your hair with fresh tap water. Hair can only take on so much water at once, so it’s best to have most of that water be from the tap, not the pool!

What about blonde hair turning green from chlorine? Actually, that’s a myth. According to chemistry expert Anne Marie Helmenstine, Ph.D, “It isn't the chlorine that turns blonde hair green. Oxidized metals in the water bind to the protein in the hair shaft and deposit their color.

The metal that produces the green tint is copper. The bleach that is added to a pool may be responsible for oxidizing the metal, but it's not the cause of the color.”

So what can you do if your hair turns green after a swim? Simple: Use a shampoo that chelates (binds with) the metallic elements, allowing them to be rinsed away, taking the green tinge with it!

A great example of an inexpensive chelating shampoo is Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo, sold in most drugstores.

How Saltwater Damages Hair
Most would agree that saltwater exposure doesn’t take the same toll on hair as chlorine does, but that doesn’t mean saltwater is off the hook!

True to its name, saltwater contains salt along with other minerals (like chloride and magnesium) that can rough up the cuticle layer and cause the hair shaft to swell and feel dry.

It’s the swelling and resulting roughening of hair’s texture that makes all of those “beach” or “surf” sprays work when used to create textured, tousled-looking waves or to add a feeling of thickness to fine hair.

On the ingredient list for almost all of these products you’ll see a high amount of either sodium chloride or magnesium chloride to approximate what hair is exposed to when its wet (or damp) from saltwater.

You can reduce the damage from saltwater exposure much the same way you reduce hair damage from chlorine in pools: Protect your hair with a bathing cap, drench it in silicone serum (or a good leave-in conditioner) and, as soon as you exit the ocean, make a beeline to a shower so you can thoroughly rinse your hair with tap water.

Tip: Do NOT let saltwater-drenched hair dry naturally in sunlight. Doing so gives already compromised hair a double dose of damage that can lead to hair breakage and tangles.

Sun Protection for Hair?
Some hair-care products advertise that they contain UV filters to protect hair from sun damage. Unlike sunscreens for skin, hair-care products are not permitted by the United States FDA to list SPF ratings, as there’s no reliable way to measure how much sun protection such products would provide.

They likely provide some protection, but likely not enough to rely on them; after all, how long would they really hold up with all hair goes through, and that’s assuming the sunscreen ingredients can deposit and uniformly hold to the length of each hair!

There are studies in which a swatch of dyed hair is covered with sunscreen ingredients, then placed under UVA/UVB light, and after a period of time measured for deterioration and color fading. The sunscreen ingredients absolutely prevented damage. But that kind of study doesn't reflect how the product is actually used by consumers. Who is going to slather sunscreen on their hair then just leave it, doing nothing else to their hair afterward? (Source: http://goo.gl/UXfCMI.)

What you can do to help reduce the damage is get into the habit of wearing stylish, vented hats on long days outdoors when you know you’ll be in direct sunlight.

Not a hair person? We suggest misting your hair with any of the alcohol-based spray-on sunscreens rated SPF 30 or greater.

Although it’s true the alcohol isn’t the best for hair, it evaporates quickly and keeps the active sunscreen ingredients from weighing hair down. Do this as the last step once your hair is styled, just like applying hairspray, and reapply throughout the day when you know you’ll be in the sun for long periods.

Recommended Products for Summer Hair
Surprisingly, research has shown that using leave-on products that contain various silicones (such as dimethicone or trimethylsiloxysilicate) can help reduce fading of dyes hair due to sun exposure. So, by all means slick a silicone serum or spray through hair before hitting the beach. (Source: http://goo.gl/1t8Cy2.)

A few we like:
• Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum (great for all hair types, but apply sparingly on fine hair)
• Nexxus Pro-mend Smoothing Shine Serum (great for normal to slightly thick hair)
• Got2b Glossy Anti-Frizz Shine Serum (great for thick, coarse hair)

As for shampoos, even if your hair isn’t normally dry, switch to conditioning formulas instead of those that are more designed to remove buildup. Exception: If you routinely expose your hair to chlorine (and, as mentioned above, you can prevent this by donning a swim cap before getting in the pool) be sure to wash with a shampoo that can remove the chlorine buildup.

We like Triswim Shampoo, as it’s a gentle, non-stripping formula that also helps remove chlorine odor.

Conditioning shampoos to try include Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Fortifying Shampoo for Dry/Damaged Hair, Redken All Soft Shampoo, and Desert Essence Coconut Shampoo Nourishing for Dry Hair.

Turning to conditioners, weather-beaten hair needs pampering formulas appropriate for your hair type. Here are some great options, all of which detangle and work for color-treated hair, too:

For fine hair:
• Joico Moisture Recovery Conditioner
• Redken All Soft Conditioner (concentration application from mid-length to ends)
• UltraSwim Ultra Repair Conditioner

For thick, coarse hair:
• Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner
• Goldwell Kerasilk Ultra Rich Care Treatment for Dry, Damaged & Unmanageable Hair
• Desert Essence Coconut Conditioner Nourishing for Dry Hair

Leave-in conditioners for days in the sun:
• Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Restorative Hair Treatment (best for normal to thick, coarse, or highly processed hair)
• Nexxus Humectress Luxe Ultimate Moisturizing Leave-in Spray (best for normal to fine or thin hair)
• Rusk Sensories Smoother Conditioner, Passionflower & Aloe (all hair types)

#PaulasChoice #HairCare #BeautyTalk
The Most Natural Organic Pool You Can Build Yourself http://bit.ly/1ohGNIs

There are many reasons to avoid chlorinated pools, most of all due to your health and the environment. Natural pools allow nature to provide hygienic water for swimming, and the vibrant ecology of plants and animals conditions the water so there is no need for any chemical disinfectants. These pools are healthy for people and wildlife. In fact the water quality in a natural pool is so good, many are well within drinking water standards.

Scientists have known for decades that along with the good that comes with disinfecting water with chlorine, chemicals called disinfection byproducts can also be formed when chlorine reacts with organic substances like human skin and residues from body care products.

Why is absorbing chlorine through the skin thought to be so dangerous? When you swallow water, you can count on the liver to filter out many toxins – but when something gets absorbed through your skin, it goes straight into the circulatory system.

Studies have shown that drinking, bathing or swimming in chlorinated water may increase the risk of bladder cancer. Chemicals, most commonly chlorine, used to disinfect water can produce by-products that have been tied to increased cancer risk.

Organic Pools

The nutrient level in an organic pool is carefully restricted so competition for the limiting nutrient (usually phosphorous) is fierce. In these circumstances, pond plants outperform algae, keeping it supressed and barely hanging in at the margins. A pond, low in nutrients, is a healthy environment for wildlife. An organic pool is teeming with life. If an alien micro-organism, a human pathogen for instance, enters the water, it faces battalions of hungry pond dewelling micro-organisms to either starve it out of existence, or devour it. A water analysis of this pond water showed that it contained zero organisms of e coli. per litre of water.

Swimming in a Natural pool among flowering plants of lilies, iris and marsh marigolds is a celebration of life. Soothing your limbs and mind and skin and eyes, it seems every cell in your body is telling you – this is the way swimming should be. Natural Pools work entirely with nature to provide hygienic water for swimming.

More http://bit.ly/1ohGNIs
What’s Behind The Rise In Deadly Flesh-Eating Bacteria In America’s Waterways http://b4in.org/a6cC

Some vacationers have been getting more than they bargained for during visits to the beach and pools this summer. Vibrio vulnificus – a warm water-dwelling, flesh eating bacteria – has infected more than a dozen people this year, some of whom have succumbed.

Recent cases in Florida and the D.C. metropolitan area – including one where a Stafford, Va. man was admitted to a hospital after a swim in the Potomac River – have brought attention to an increase in seawater temperatures that experts say make the bodies of water the perfect breeding ground for deadly bacteria.

In 2011, members of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation likened the Chesapeake Bay to “a warm pond with a broth of nutrients at the right temperature to breed algae and bacteria.”

According to a report conducted by the environmental group, cases of Vibrio vulnificus more than doubled in the last decade in Virginia and Maryland, a period during which seawater temperatures in the region increased by half of a degree Fahrenheit.

The study also identified the increasing presence of mercury, nitrates, and blue green algae in warm bodies of water.

Symptoms of Vibrio vulnificus include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, ulcers and the breakdown of skin. People usually come into contact with the bacteria by consuming raw shellfish and swimming in water with open wounds.

While healthy people often experience mild symptoms, people with weakened immune systems have cause for concern, especially those who suffer from liver disease.

Studies have shown that risk of Vibrio vulnificus exposure in people with preexisting medical conditions were 30 percent higher than the general population. People who contract Vibrio vulnificus through open wounds may also need amputation to ensure recovery.

This week, officials in Florida advised residents against taking dips into water with open wounds and consuming raw oysters and clams after Vibrio vulnificus killed three people in the state.

Unfortunately, Vibrio vulnificus is not the first warm water-dwelling bacteria to wreak havoc on swimmers and marine animals. Last summer, officials in Hartford, Connecticut issued a recall of oysters and clams after more than five people reported seafood-related illnesses.

The state’s Bureau of Agriculture later linked the illnesses to a warm water-dwelling bacteria, prompting a suspension of shellfish harvests until the fall, when seawater was expected to cool down.

For the last three years, a brain-eating amoeba by the name of Naegleria fowleri – often confined to fresh water in southern states like Arizona and Texas – has infected and killed people in Kansas, Virginia, and Minnesota who swam in warm rivers, lakes, and improperly chlorinated swimming pools.

In February, sea otters living off the Alaskan coast contracted Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a warm water-dwelling bacteria that also causes diarrhea and vomiting.

In a 2005 New England Journal of Medicine study about a 2004 outbreak in the region also drew a connection to seawater temperatures that rose above 56 degrees Fahrenheit.

More http://b4in.org/a6cC
Frackers Spill Olympic Pool's Worth of Hydrochloric Acid in Oklahoma

An acid spill on Monday in rural Kingfisher County northwest of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma could turn out to be the largest spill “in relation to fracking materials” in the state according to an Oklahoma Corporation Commission spokesman.

Spokesman Matt Skinner said 480 barrels of fracking-related hydrochloric (HCL) acid, nearly enough to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool, emptied out of a tank where it was stored. Acid is used in the fracking process to both clean wells and stimulate the flow of oil and gas. The cause of the spill, which occurred in an alfalfa field, is under investigation.

Skinner told ThinkProgress this is the largest frack-related spill he is aware of in the state’s history. He was unable to comment on the cause of the spill because it is currently under investigation, but said they “think they know the cause.”

“Our main concern is to get the area back to the way it was before the spill happened,” said Skinner. While there are no water wells in the immediate vicinity, there were concerns if not properly taken care of the acid could taint the nearby town of Hennessey’s water supply. A nearby creek flows into the town’s water system and a a rainstorm could result in contamination. However, Skinner said the area was bermed off and the remediation company was able to contain the chemicals through any rain so far. A berm is a small hill or wall or dirt or sand separating two areas.

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission is overseeing the cleanup of the well, which was operated by Blake Production, an independent oil and gas producer operating wells in four states. The company’s owner, Blake Vernon said the company will compensate the landowner for the next six years for the loss of his alfalfa crop. The landowners’ lawyer Matthew R. Oppel said this may not suffice.

“The spill occurred in the center of my client’s alfalfa field and while the property is currently used for agricultural purposes the Hawks hoped to build a home on their Turkey Creek property,” said Oppel. “Unfortunately the spill will not only affect the Hawks immediate use and enjoyment, but future development may be impossible.”

Hydrocloric acid is a colorless liquid with a sharp and extremely irritating odor. Upon exposure to air, there is an immediate release of toxic hydrogen chloride gas. As a strong corrosive acid, hydrochloric acid reacts with many metals producing flammable hydrogen gas that can become an explosion hazard.

Severe pulmonary edema and pneumonitis can result from inhalation of hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) gas. Pre-existing lung disease may be aggravated by exposure and inhalation can cause ulcerations of the nose, throat and larynx. Should hydrochloric acid come into contact with human eyes, irreversible corneal damage may result.

Oklahoma is also one of the top states in overall oil spills, having experienced 951 reported oil spills in 2013 — more than every other fossil-fuel producing state except North Dakota according to an EnergyWire investigation. However in North Dakota companies have to report any spill larger than one barrel, or 42 gallons, whereas in Oklahoma the threshold is 10 barrels.

http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/07/31/3466283/olympic-pool-sized-hydrochloric-acid-spill-oklahoma/

#BanFRACKING

Thanks to uric acid found in urine, swimming in pools can lead to irritated lungs!

According to a new study, researchers discovered that uric acid from urine mixed with chlorine produces small amounts of cyanogen chloride and trichloramine. When these chemicals are inhaled in large quantities it can cause damage to the lungs. However, researchers found that the typical amount of urine released by a swimmer has not been found to cause physical harm, but it may potentially cause irritation.

Link to story:

http://chrom.so/1ouPkZa

Protect That Radiant Summertim...

How To Detox From Fluoride htt...

25 Tests and Observations that...
