Eight year-old boys found next to East Lancs Road after going missing on school trip<br /><br />Two eight year-old boys were found at the side of the busy East Lancashire Road after going missing from a school swimming lesson. The pair, who were pupils at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School in Fazakerley, disappeared from a trip to a swimming pool in Croxteth yesterday afternoon. Police officers found them 30 minutes later on the side of the A580. The ECHO understands the boys were discovered near the Famous Blue Star fish and chip shop. The children had apparently been waiting in The De La Salle Academy, off Dwerryhouse Lane, while their fellow pupils had a swimming lesson. They asked to go to the toilet but didn’t return. From Google Maps A Blessed Sacrament Primary School spokesman said: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation into how two pupils were able to leave the De La Salle school site while on a school swimming trip. “Staff raised the alarm within a couple of minutes of the pupils not returning from a visit to the toilet, and all necessary steps were taken to find them, including alerting Merseyside Police. “We are extremely thankful that they came to no harm and would like to thank police officers for their assistance in finding them. “Pupil safety is our top priority. We have not had an incident like this before and we will leave no stone unturned in making sure it never happens again.” The ECHO understands the escape was ‘pre-planned’ by the boys rather than being a spur of the moment disappearance. A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said they were called at 2.51pm with a report that two boys had walked out of the De La Salle Academy about 15 minutes earlier. She said the children were found safe and well about 3.05pm on the East Lancashire Road. Dwerryhouse Lane, which leads into Lower House Lane, is a four-lane road whilst the East Lancashire Road consists of six lanes of traffic.
