Eight year-old boys found next to East Lancs Road after going missing on school trip

Two eight year-old boys were found at the side of the busy East Lancashire Road after going missing from a school swimming lesson. The pair, who were pupils at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School in Fazakerley, disappeared from a trip to a swimming pool in Croxteth yesterday afternoon. Police officers found them 30 minutes later on the side of the A580. The ECHO understands the boys were discovered near the Famous Blue Star fish and chip shop. The children had apparently been waiting in The De La Salle Academy, off Dwerryhouse Lane, while their fellow pupils had a swimming lesson. They asked to go to the toilet but didn’t return. The school has now launched an investigation. Map of De La Salle Academy and the East Lancs Road. From Google Maps A Blessed Sacrament Primary School spokesman said: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation into how two pupils were able to leave the De La Salle school site while on a school swimming trip. “Staff raised the alarm within a couple of minutes of the pupils not returning from a visit to the toilet, and all necessary steps were taken to find them, including alerting Merseyside Police. “We are extremely thankful that they came to no harm and would like to thank police officers for their assistance in finding them. “Pupil safety is our top priority. We have not had an incident like this before and we will leave no stone unturned in making sure it never happens again.” The ECHO understands the escape was ‘pre-planned’ by the boys rather than being a spur of the moment disappearance. A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said they were called at 2.51pm with a report that two boys had walked out of the De La Salle Academy about 15 minutes earlier. She said the children were found safe and well about 3.05pm on the East Lancashire Road. Dwerryhouse Lane, which leads into Lower House Lane, is a four-lane road whilst the East Lancashire Road consists of six lanes of traffic. Pool Alarm & Pool Gates
Before uncovering your backyard pool, consider this: Drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for kids 14 and younger. An unsupervised child can slip into a pool without a sound or a splash, and in less than two minutes underwater, he can lose consciousness.

Alarms can alert parents to emergencies before it’s too late. In fact, some states even have legislation requiring them. (Learn more about pool safety legislation.) The Good Housekeeping Research Institute tested seven pool alarms (they tell you when the water is disturbed) and six gate alarms (installed on a barrier around your pool, they sound when the gate is opened).

“We recommend using both pool and gate alarms. The more layers of protection, the better,” says Todd Kent, GHRI’s senior test engineer. “Effective alarms are not lifesaving devices, but they can alert parents to an accident, giving them time to act.”

In addition to the pool and gate alarms, GHRI tested a personal immersion detector (i.e., wristband alarm). Here’s how all the alarms fared.

Pool Alarms — Passed

MG International Sensor Espio ($699)
The Espio sounded on each mannequin drop test with an average response time of 10.20 seconds, and did not alarm during the wind test. Any pet owner will tell you that their animals are a part of their family and welcome guests at any summer pool party or barbecue. In the midst of all that family fun, safety should still be a top priority.

Safe swimming for dogs
Pools can be great for dogs who love to go for a swim, especially on a hot summer day. There are a few advantages of dogs going for a dip with their owners in the backyard pool—it helps to keep them cool and is a great source of exercise—but there are many safety considerations dog owners should keep in mind.

Many breeds are naturals in the water and quite adept at swimming. However, even the strongest swimmers should fall under the same rules as children. Never leave your dog unsupervised in a pool or any other body of water (e.g. lake, pond or river). For this reason, it is important to fence off your pool from your pet so they can not get there without human supervision.

Furthermore, not all breeds are good swimmers. In fact, some dogs, such as the pug or bulldog, are not naturally keen on water and are not natural swimmers, due mostly to their weight distribution and mass. These dogs should avoid all water that is deeper than their chest height.

It is important to be especially diligent in watching puppies and older dogs around the pool. Puppies may take naturally to water if it is part of their breed, but they still need to be closely monitored for signs of fatigue or distress. Older dogs have less energy; if they have medical conditions, they can lose their balance and risk falling into the pool.

Teaching your pet pool safety
If you have a pool, have recently gotten a new puppy and intend to let the puppy swim in the pool, it is a great idea to teach the dog some basic pool safety. You will need to ensure there is a way for the dog to easily get out of the pool and teach them how to use it. If your pool has built-in stairs the dog can use, that's great. If you don't have any easy access built in, you may want to purchase a ramp they can use to easily get out of the pool on their own.

You should never throw a dog into a pool. Even if the dog has been in the pool before and is adept at swimming, it could very likely be traumatic for the animal and could lead to panic while in the water. Also never submerge your animal or play roughly with it in the pool, as this behaviour could also lead to panic and fear.

Keeping your cat safe
If you have a cat, it will probably instinctually avoid a pool as most cats are hesitant to get wet. If you have an outdoor cat, the best way to ensure they do not get into the pool is to install a floating pool alarm, which will sound if the surface is disturbed.

The best advice is to keep your animal away from the pool when it is not in use. A fence with a locking gate is an ideal solution to ensure your animal does not wander into the pool area when they are not supposed to be there.

Protecting your pet from pool chemicals
A big part of owning a pool is the maintenance, which inevitably involves cleaning with chemicals such as chlorine. It is important to remember that dogs should never drink chlorinated water. Ensure your dog has a supply of fresh water nearby, both to avoid the temptation and to keep them hydrated. You also need to make sure your chemical mix in the pool is correct. If you use too much chlorine, it will upset your dogs eyes; if you use too little, green algae can occur and make your dog ill. When in doubt, consult a pool maintenance professional about your chemical use.

Even if your chemical content is spot-on, chlorine can still cause problems for your pets. As with people, chlorine can make your dog's skin itch if it is not washed off after he or she leaves the pool. Use a clean supply of water, such as a garden hose, to wash your animal off. This will rinse its fur and skin of most of the chlorine, reducing the risk of skin irritation, not to mention lessen the risk of the dog licking its fur and accidentally ingesting chlorine residue.

Dogs are curious creatures who tend to be interested in everything around them. They are usually eager and want to sniff and explore, so make sure the chemicals you use in your pool are safety stored away in a pool house, shed or garage so the dog can't get near them. Even a small taste of those potent cleaners can make your dog quite ill.

Pet CPR
The best precaution you can take to protect your furry friend is to take a pet CPR and first aid course. This is especially encouraged this for pet owners with pools.

As fun as the pool can be for pets, accidents do happen; being able to resuscitate your pet if needed will help you prevent those tragedies from occurring.

Ian McConachie is senior communicator with the Toronto Humane Society. Household Safety: Preventing Drowning

Water safety is important at any age, but is especially crucial if you have babies or toddlers in your home. Drowning can happen very quickly and in less than 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) of water, so filled bathtubs, swimming pools, wading pools, hot tubs, and even buckets of water and sinks can be dangerous.

To reduce the risk of drowning:

Bathroom

Never leave a baby unattended in the bath. If you must answer the telephone or door, don't rely on an older sibling to watch the baby; wrap your baby in a towel and bring him or her with you.

Never leave a bathtub, bucket, or other container filled with any amount of water or other liquid unattended.

Never use a bathtub seat or supporting ring without constant adult supervision. The seat can overturn or a baby may slip out into the water.

Install a toilet-lid locking device and keep bathroom doors closed at all times. (Or you may want to install a doorknob cover.)

Pool

If you have a pool in your backyard, install fencing at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) high on all sides of the pool, as well as a self-closing and self-latching gate with a lock that's out of a child's reach.

Consider installing a pool alarm or cover, but realize these devices are not substitutes for fencing and adult supervision.

Remove toys from the pool when kids are finished swimming to prevent them from trying to recover them when unsupervised.

Inflatable flotation devices such as vests, water wings, rafts, and tubes can give a false sense of security in the pool and are not effective in protecting a child from drowning. Never use these as a substitute for constant adult supervision.

Dump out all water from a wading pool when you're finished using it.
Remove any ladders from an above-ground pool when not in use.
If you leave your child with a babysitter, make sure he or she knows your rules for the pool.

Be Prepared

If you're expecting a baby or you already have a child, it's a good idea to:

Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich maneuver.
Keep the following numbers near the phone (for yourself and caregivers):

toll-free poison-control number: 1-800-222-1222

doctor's number

parents' work and cell phone numbers

neighbor's or nearby relative's number (if you need someone to watch other children in an emergency)

Make a first-aid kit and keep emergency instructions inside.

Install smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Maintaining a Safe, Kid-Friendly Environment

To check your childproofing efforts, get down on your hands and knees in every room of your home to see things from a child's perspective. Be aware of your child's surroundings and what might be potentially dangerous.

Completely childproofing your home can be difficult. If you can't childproof the entire house, you can shut the doors (and install doorknob covers) to any room a child shouldn't enter to prevent wandering into places that haven't been properly childproofed. For sliding doors, doorknob covers and childproof locks are also great for keeping little ones from leaving your home. Of course, how much or how little you childproof your home is up to you. Supervision is the very best way to help prevent kids from getting injured. However, even the most vigilant parent can't keep a child 100% safe at all times.

Whether you have a baby, toddler, or school-age child, your home should be a haven where your little one can explore safely. After all, touching, holding, climbing, and exploring are the activities that develop your child's body and mind.

http://www.choa.org/child-health-glossary/h/ho/household-safety-preventing-drowning_kh_parent

http://www.goldsteinhayes.com/practice-areas/atlanta-premises-liability-lawyers/drowning-pool-accidents/

#drowningprevention
#drowningaccidents

Pool Alarm Systems Can Save Lives

It’s time to uncover the pool for summer, and that means that pool safety is a top concern. Children could be in danger of drowning if they are left unattended and fall into a swimming pool.

One solution to ensure pool safety is a pool alarm system. These systems reside in the water and detect waves and ripples, sounding an alarm when the pool’s surface is disturbed by a person or animal. Swimming pool alarms are designed to detect large objects dropped into a pool, so things like leaves will not trigger them. When an object is dropped into the pool, the alarm sounds to let homeowners know that someone is in the pool. Some states even require this safety feature in every pool.

If you have a pool and children in your home or homes nearby, you might consider implementing a pool alarm this year. It could save a life.
Layers of protection are truly a pillar of pool safety. Door alarms, door sliders, pool fence, pool alarms. All of these apply to pool safety. A vertical barrier that provides security as well as transparency is a keystone in the building of pool safety. Below is a great example of a well executed installation of removable pool safety fence in an open backyard (tempting for kids that do not live there!). #poolsafetydallas #swimmingpoolsdallas #poolfencedallas #babyproofdallas
The Dangers of Wandering in Autistic Children

I created Fitness for Health more than 25 years ago to help special needs children maximize their physical potential and, through that time, the Autistic community and local special needs parents have become like a second family to me. So, today my blog will focus on a very important topic and one that is close to my heart - the dangers of Autistic children wandering off.

There has been a lot of news coverage in recent months about Autistic children wandering away from their homes and schools. One case still receiving much needed publicity is Avonte Oquendo, a non-verbal, Autistic 14-year-old boy who walked out of his school in Long Island, NY, last month. Unfortunately, Avonte is still missing.

A 2012 study published in the journal, Pediatrics, confirms what parents of Autistic children already know too well - wandering by children with autism is commonplace. Using parent surveys, the researchers found that nearly half of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) attempt to wander or bolt from a safe, supervised place. More than half of these wandering children go missing – often into dangerous situations.

To ensure our children remain safe - especially now that the weather is turning colder - and avert further tragedies for parents, I want to share these tips from Approach Autism with Advocacy, Recovery & Education (AAWARE).

Six Tips to Help Prevent Wandering and Wandering-Related Tragedies
From AWAARE: Autism Wandering Awareness Alerts Response Education Coalition

1. Secure Your Home. Consider contacting a professional locksmith, security company or home improvement professional to promote safety and prevention in your home. You may find it is necessary to prevent your loved one from slipping away unnoticed by installing secure dead bolt locks that require keys on both sides, a home security alarm system, inexpensive battery-operated alarms on doors, placing hook and eye locks on all doors above your child's reach, fencing your yard, adhering printable STOP SIGNS to doors, windows and other exits, etc.

2. Consider a Tracking Device. Check with local law enforcement for Project Lifesaver or LoJak SafetyNet services. These tracking devices are worn on the wrist or ankle and locate the individual through radio frequency. Various GPS tracking systems are also available.

3. Consider an ID Bracelet. Medical ID bracelets will include your name, telephone number and other important information. They may also state that your child has autism and is non-verbal if applicable. If your child will not wear a bracelet or necklace, consider a temporary tattoo with your contact information.

4. Teach Your Child to Swim. Swimming lessons for children with special needs are available at many YMCA locations. The final lesson should be with clothes on. Remember: teaching your child how to swim does not mean your child is safe in water. If you own a pool, fence it and if neighbors have pools, let them know of these safety precautions and your child's tendency to wander. Remove all toys or items of interest from the pool when not in use.

5. Alert Your Neighbors. It is recommended that caregivers plan a brief visit with neighbors to introduce their loved or provide a photograph. Knowing your neighbors can help reduce the risks associated with wandering. See the caregiver tool kit below for resources to use to alert them.

6. Alert First Responders. Providing first responders with key information before an incident occurs may improve response. Informational handouts should include all pertinent information and be copied and carried with caregivers at all times. Circulate the handout to family, neighbors, friends and co-workers, as well as first responders. Click here (http://nationalautismassociation.org/docs/BigRedSafetyToolkit-FR.pdf) for resources to use to alert them.

I hope these resources help to keep our children safe and secure. Please keep Avonte and his family in your thoughts.
LIABILITY FOR SWIMMING POOL DROWNING ACCIDENTS
Posted on October 31, 2013 by Jonathan Hayes

Drowning is the fifth leading cause of unintentional injury in the United States and the leading cause of death resulting from injury for children between the ages of one and four years old. A significant number of drowning fatalities among children between the ages of one and four are caused by submersion injuries which occur in swimming pools. In addition to causing death, swimming pool drowning accidents can cause serious injuries, including brain damage which can lead to long term disabilities such as memory problems and learning disabilities.

Swimming pool owners can take steps to make their premises safe and to prevent drowning accidents. These steps include:

Securing Access to the Pool Area: Enclosing a pool with four sided fencing which separates the pool area from other parts of the yard and home can reduce swimming pool drowning among toddlers by 50 percent. Fencing should be high enough to prevent children from being able to climb over it. The Centers for Disease Control recommends fencing that is at least four feet high. They also suggest outward facing self-closing and self-latching gates which are placed out of reach of children. Alarm systems can also be used to alert owners when children and others have gained access to the pool area.

Ensuring Appropriate Supervision: Adequate supervision is a key factor in preventing swimming pool drowning accidents among children. According to a study conducted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, most swimming pool drowning accidents among children occur while they are in the care of both parents and out of sight for less than five minutes. Children should be supervised by an adult while swimming. The adult charged with supervising children while they are in and around the pool should be free from other distractions such as, reading, texting, or doing yard work.

Pool owners who fail to keep their premises safe may be held liable for negligence if an accident occurs on their property.

Swimming pool owners may be held liable for negligence if they fail to maintain adequate safeguards and someone is either injured or killed as a result. The duty of care which a swimming pool owner owes to individuals using their facility varies depending on the circumstances which brought them to the property.

Generally, property owners have only a minimal duty to avoid “willfully or wantonly” injuring a trespasser. However, Georgia law places a heightened duty of care on owners of property which may be “inherently alluring”. In some cases, a premises which includes a pool may qualify for this heightened duty of care. In addition, property owners have a duty to warn guests of known but hidden dangers. The highest duty of care is owed to individuals who visit the property for business purposes. Premise owners have a duty to keep their property reasonably safe for these individuals.

If you or a loved one has been injured, or if your loved one has been killed as a result of a swimming pool drowning accident, you should contact an attorney experienced in handling swimming pool accident claims and swimming pool litigation to determine whether negligence was involved. The Atlanta, Georgia law firm Goldstein & Hayes PC has extensive experience with swimming pool litigation and handling swimming pool accident claims. Our swimming pool accident attorneys are dedicated to helping families whose loved one has been seriously injured or drowned in a pool. Avoid Alcohol. Avoid drinking alcohol before or during swimming, boating, or water skiing. Do not drink alcohol while supervising children.
Don’t let swimmers hyperventilate before swimming underwater or try to hold their breath for long periods of time. This can cause them to pass out (sometimes called “shallow water blackout”) and drown.
Know how to prevent recreational water illnesses. For more information about illnesses from recreational water, see the More Information section below.

Know the local weather conditions and forecast before swimming or boating. Strong winds and thunderstorms with lightning strikes are dangerous.

If you have a swimming pool at home:
Install Four-Sided Fencing. Install a four-sided pool fence that completely separates the pool area from the house and yard. The fence should be at least 4 feet high. Use self-closing and self-latching gates that open outward with latches that are out of reach of children. Also, consider additional barriers such as automatic door locks and alarms to prevent access or alert you if someone enters the pool area.
Clear the Pool and Deck of Toys. Remove floats, balls and other toys from the pool and surrounding area immediately after use so children are not tempted to enter the pool area unsupervised.
If you are in and around natural water settings:
Use U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets. This is important regardless of the distance to be traveled, the size of the boat, or the swimming ability of boaters; life jackets can reduce risk for weaker swimmers too.

Know the meaning of and obey warnings represented by colored beach flags. These may vary from one beach to another.
Watch for dangerous waves and signs of rip currents. Some examples are water that is discolored and choppy, foamy, or filled with debris and moving in a channel away from shore.

If you are caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore. Once free of the current, swim diagonally toward shore.

Regardless of how careful parents may be around swimming pools, our personal injury law firm knows first hand that tragic events can still occur. If you believe that someone may be at fault for a swimming pool accident or drowning accident, or you would just like to discuss your options with an attorney, please do not hesitate to contact our Atlanta law firm. At Goldstein & Hayes, PC, we offer a free initial consultation to discuss your claim and in most cases we collect no attorneys’ fees unless we recover damages through settlement or trial.

#drowninglawsuit ">Unintentional Drowning: Get the Facts

Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States.1

How big is the problem?

From 2005-2009, there were an average of 3,533 fatal unintentional drownings (non-boating related) annually in the United States — about ten deaths per day. An additional 347 people died each year from drowning in boating-related incidents.

About one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger.

For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.

More than 50% of drowning victims treated in emergency departments (EDs) require hospitalization or transfer for further care (compared with a hospitalization rate of about 6% for all unintentional injuries).

These nonfatal drowning injuries can cause severe brain damage that may result in long-term disabilities such as memory problems, learning disabilities, and permanent loss of basic functioning (e.g., permanent vegetative state).

Who is most at risk?

Males: Nearly 80% of people who die from drowning are male.

Children: Children ages 1 to 4 have the highest drowning rates. In 2009, among children 1 to 4 years old who died from an unintentional injury, more than 30% died from drowning.

Among children ages 1 to 4, most drownings occur in home swimming pools.2 Drowning is responsible for more deaths among children 1-4 than any other cause except congenital anomalies (birth defects).

Among those 1-14, fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death behind motor vehicle crashes.1
Minorities: Between 2005 and 2009, the fatal unintentional drowning rate for African Americans was significantly higher than that of whites across all ages.

The disparity is widest among children 5-14 years old. The fatal drowning rate of African American children ages 5 to 14 is almost three times that of white children in the same age range.

Factors such as access to swimming pools, the desire or lack of desire to learn how to swim, and choosing water-related recreational activities may contribute to the racial differences in drowning rates. Available rates are based on population, not on participation. If rates could be determined by actual participation in water-related activities, the disparity in minorities’ drowning rates compared to whites would be much greater.

What factors influence drowning risk?

The main factors that affect drowning risk are lack of swimming ability, lack of barriers to prevent unsupervised water access, lack of close supervision while swimming, location, failure to wear life jackets, alcohol use, and seizure disorders.

Lack of Swimming Ability: Many adults and children report that they can’t swim.6,7 Research has shown that participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning among children aged 1 to 4 years.

Lack of Barriers: Barriers, such as pool fencing, prevent young children from gaining access to the pool area without caregivers’ awareness.10 A four-sided isolation fence (separating the pool area from the house and yard) reduces a child’s risk of drowning 83% compared to three-sided property-line fencing.

Lack of Close Supervision: Drowning can happen quickly and quietly anywhere there is water (such as bathtubs, swimming pools, buckets), and even in the presence of lifeguards.

Location: People of different ages drown in different locations. For example, most children ages 1-4 drown in home swimming pools.2 The percentage of drownings in natural water settings, including lakes, rivers and oceans, increases with age.2 More than half of fatal and nonfatal drownings among those 15 years and older (57% and 57% respectively) occurred in natural water settings.

Failure to Wear Life Jackets: In 2010, the U.S. Coast Guard received reports for 4,604 boating incidents; 3,153 boaters were reported injured, and 672 died. Most (72%) boating deaths that occurred during 2010 were caused by drowning, with 88% of victims not wearing life jackets

Alcohol Use: Among adolescents and adults, alcohol use is involved in up to 70% of deaths associated with water recreation, almost a quarter of ED visits for drowning, and about one in five reported boating deaths.

Alcohol influences balance, coordination, and judgment, and its effects are heightened by sun exposure and heat.

Seizure Disorders: For persons with seizure disorders, drowning is the most common cause of unintentional injury death, with the bathtub as the site of highest drowning risk.

What has research found?
Swimming skills help. Taking part in in formal swimming lessons reduces the risk of drowning among children aged 1 to 4 years.8,9 However, many people don’t have basic swimming skills. A CDC study6 about self-reported swimming abilityfound that:
Younger adults reported greater swimming ability than older adults.
Self-reported ability increased with level of education.
Among racial groups, African Americans reported the most limited swimming ability.

Men of all ages, races, and educational levels consistently reported greater swimming ability than women.
Seconds count—learn CPR. CPR performed by bystanders has been shown to save lives and improve outcomes in drowning victims. The more quickly CPR is started, the better the chance of improved outcomes.

Life jackets can reduce risk. Potentially, half of all boating deaths might be prevented with the use of life jackets.

Tips to help you stay safe in the water
Supervise When in or Around Water. Designate a responsible adult to watch young children while in the bath and all children swimming or playing in or around water. Supervisors of preschool children should provide “touch supervision”, be close enough to reach the child at all times. Because drowning occurs quickly and quietly, adults should not be involved in any other distracting activity (such as reading, playing cards, talking on the phone, or mowing the lawn) while supervising children, even if lifeguards are present.

Use the Buddy System. Always swim with a buddy. Select swimming sites that have lifeguards when possible.
Seizure Disorder Safety. If you or a family member has a seizure disorder, provide one-on-one supervision around water, including swimming pools. Consider taking showers rather than using a bath tub for bathing. Wear life jackets when boating.

Learn to Swim. Formal swimming lessons can protect young children from drowning. However, even when children have had formal swimming lessons, constant, careful supervision when children are in the water, and barriers, such as pool fencing to prevent unsupervised access, are still important.

Learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). In the time it takes for paramedics to arrive, your CPR skills could save someone’s life.
Air-Filled or Foam Toys are not safety devices. Don’t use air-filled or foam toys, such as
Avoid Alcohol.

Pool Safety Rules
According to the Center for Disease Control, over 3,200 people drown each year. Among children, ages one to four, most drowned in residential swimming pools. There are several safety rules that pool owners should follow to prevent accidents and decrease potential liability exposure.

Install a fence around the pool area. This will help prevent people from using the pool without your knowledge and keep small children and animals out.
In addition to the fence, door alarms, locks and safety covers create a barrier of protection around the pool.
Never leave small children unsupervised in or around the pool — even for a minute.
Keep children away from pool filters. The suction may injure them or prevent them from reaching the surface.
Be sure all pool users know how to swim. Teach your children to swim as early as possible.
Develop a buddy system — don't swim alone or allow others to swim alone.
Don't allow anyone who has been drinking alcohol to swim in the pool.
Never dive into an above ground pool. Always check the water depth before plunging into an in-ground pool.
Don't allow your children to let their friends use the pool without your permission and supervision.
Don’t allow glass bottles or other potential hazards into the pool area.
Keep radios, CD players, blow dryers, and other electrical devices away from the pool.
Keep a secure cover on the pool during the off season.
Keep a first aid kit, ring buoys and reaching poles near the pool in case of emergency.
Consider having the adults in your home take basic first aid and CPR training.

Eight year-old boys found next...

Any pet owner will tell you th...
