Fail #2: Me as Shipping Agent
I wrote Decal Girl last night and they suggested I go to the Post Office and track the package down. That is a BIG fail since they are moving the burden of their delivery failure over to me.

Fail #3: Suggesting I Pay for UPS Ground
The worst fail, as this is all on them, is suggesting I pay to receive a replacement via a more trusted shipping method. I had to push back HARD on that one. Decal Girl selected USPS as their shipping partner THEY must resolve the issue with them and me simultaneously.

AND I shouldn't have to pay for the USPS mistake. I'm already paying since my new Macbook sits in a box  patiently waiting for the decals I ordered from Decal Girl to arrive. I'm also paying because its frustrating to be told I have to figure it out and solve the problem OR  I have to pay.

WRONG!

There is an opportunity in every company's day to be a hero. Decal Girl walked by that opportunity today. They could have said, "We are so sorry and we will reprint and ship 2 Day Air on us to make up for the delay and disappointment," but that is not what they did.

They came through in the end, but made me get angry and upset before doing the right thing. Companies that do the right thing when pushed into a corner have been read the riot act about costs from some bean counter. What is the cost of this post? What is the real cost of frustrating instead of WOWING your customers?

This Is Why I Like FedEx
I can make a cogent #branding argument about why Decal Girl (or anyone) should ship FedEx. FedEx, unlike USPS, is a PREMIUM brand. For a little decal company to ship FedEx creates a degree of trust and premium expectation they can't BUY yet. Aligning with a more premium brand PULLS Decal Girl up two steps on the "trust" ladder.

The ONLY way for any brand to succeed is to win hearts and minds of TODAY's customers. Why risk such a valuable thing, the hearts and minds of today's customers, on USPS? This is called tripping over the $100 bills to pick up pennies.

In a HYPER competitive market where we have 10 choices for anything including protective stickers for a MacBook WHY would you risk so much over so little. Decal Girl loses twice.

1. Could have felt like a PREMIUM brand whose products are 99.99% likely to arrive when expected and in good condition.

2. Could have had me sharing pictures of my Macbook with their decals and an amazing WOW customer service story to tell about loss and recovery.

If you have an online business and are reading this NEVER fail on both of those fronts. You can't afford to for very long. My suggestion is talk to my friend Gary and his amazing +FedEx support team and STOP thinking you are saving money even as you KILL your #brand .

In a digital age YOU are only as good as the partnerships you create. USPS is a poor reflection from the start. When they FAIL, as they inevitably will, you must be ready to hop in a car and DELIVER BY HAND if you want to equal out the poor choice of partnering with such an unreliable carrier.

It's not JUST the unreliability that should concern you. FedEx has sophisticated backend systems that help YOU know when MY package didn't get delivered (on those rare instances when that happens). Those systems would have protected Decal Girl from Fail #1.

No system can SOUND confident, reassuring and glad to help. Those virtues come from TRAINING and PRACTICE. I spent $40 I may never see (or will see in another two weeks maybe) to protect a $2K computer thinking I would take a risk on a new vendor.

MY BAD. Decal Girl is not lost in the pantheon of bad customer service. They missed the mark by less than 10%, but less than 10% in the highly competitive market they are in can doom any Small to Medium Sized Business ( #smb ). Don't let this happen to you.

Do this instead:

1. Use FedEx and create free shipping triggers for ground and air.
2. NEVER make your customers do your customer service. Audit delivery and send emails asking for feedback (to catch stuff that falls through your automated traps).
3. Mistakes happens so create a "hands free" policy with your customer service agents - they get to do whatever is needed to win back the heart and mind of the customer including and up to hopping on a plane.
4. Don't trip over $100 in branding for $1 in perceived shipping savings.

I'm sure a bean counter is reading this thinking, "You will go broke that way". I suggest that bean counter read Malcolm Gladwell's David & Goliath and pay particular attention to the section on perceived advantage vs. disadvantage.

Shipping savings, a clear perceived advantage, can quickly become a major DISADVANTAGE to any online brand. Brands are judged by PERFORMANCE of the entire chain, so you are truly and finally only as strong as the weakest link in your chain.

Decal Girl has two weak links - USPS and their poorly trained customer service team (never blame the agent they are simply doing what they've been trained to do). Decal Gil is tripping over BIG MONEY to pick up SMALL MONEY and feeling good about it all the way into the side of the mountain.

Don't do that :). M">Killing Your Brand Is EASY - Only As Strong As Your WEAKEST Link: Why I Like FedEx!<br />We ask the wrong question in the wrong way when it comes to shipping. The U.S. Postal Service Thinks 3D Printing Can Make It Thrive<br /><br />though many would predict just the opposite. It’s easy to imagine how 3D printing could obliterate the need for package deliveries – that’s one of the basic selling points of 3D printers. If you want something, you print it. The United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General isn’t scared, though. To the contrary, judging by its executive summary of a new report from the economic consulting firm Christensen Associates, “If It Prints, It Ships: 3D Printing and the Postal Service,” is seems the USPS can’t wait for 3D printing to become increasingly mainstream. Whether Americans increasingly order customized objects online that are then printed at local centers for same-day delivery, or bring 3D printers into their homes, the Postal Service seems eager to get some skin the game.<br /><br />Regarding the first possible scenario, the report reads, “Christensen Associates estimated that 3D printing could raise the Postal Service’s annual package revenue by $485 million as businesses ship increasing numbers of 3D printed goods to consumers.” As for the second, “If people someday print many items directly, they may frequently need 3D printing supplies such as powders and binding materials delivered.” The report continues, “No other organization covers as much ground as frequently and reliably as the Postal Service.”<br /><br />Though Amazon has threatened promised drone delivery service in “some number of years,” and Postal Service competitors like FedEx FDX -0.12% and UPS are frequently consumers’ preferred shipping carriers, as USPS points out in the summary, “The Postal Service has an unmatched last-mile delivery network.” It means last mile literally. When a delivery location is too rural to be cost-effective for FedEx, for instance, the Postal Service takes over because it “is already visiting these locations every day,” though presumably, such deliveries tend to be a money sink. The strength of its network is undeniable, though: “Six days per week, it delivers to 153 million addresses across the United States. In addition, it has more than 211,000 vehicles that drive about 1.2 billion miles annually. Moreover, it employs nearly 114,000 rural carriers and nearly 198,000 city carriers.”<br /><br />The executive summary manages to see 3D printing making that network more efficient: It “could lead to more single-item parcels being shipped to consumers over shorter distances, instead of hundreds of thousands of identical items sent by containerized cargo over vast distances. It could also lead to reduced fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, as well as less material waste due to precise manufacturing.”<br /><br />The executive summary is almost nothing but optimistic, written in a kind of awkward doublespeak that combines innovation buzz words (“This assumes a medium level of 3D printing disruption”), patronizing explanations of what 3D printing is and can be used for (“Objects produced by hobbyists may be educational, artistic, or fun;” the summary also includes a rendering of two 3D scans of Abraham Lincoln’s Life Masks), and exuberance (“The Postal Service has the most to gain from 3D printing compared to other delivery firms”). It also suggets a stunning lack of self-awareness. At one point, the summary touts – as an asset that USPS could bring to the 3D printing industry – that “the Postal Service has more than 60 million square feet of excess space nationwide, much of which is in mail processing centers.” The summary then describes the ventilation and electricity capabilities of these vacant spaces, the idea being that local 3D printing centers could lease the space from the Postal Service. This point is a direct manifestation USPS’s loss of business over the years, and it reeks of government inefficiency.<br /><br />The executive summary’s introduction compares 3D printing’s potential to change life as we know it to “the way the Internet revolutionized communication.” That revolution in communication, though, is a big part of why the USPS loses money every year – $5 billion in the 2013 financial year alone. That was actually a step in the right direction after the Postal Service lost $15.9 billion in 2012. Just last week, I wrote an article about the most endangered jobs of 2014, and mail carrier topped the list with a -28% hiring outlook.<br /><br />Analyzing the executive summary, Brookings Institute Vice President and Director Darrell M. West and Research Analyst Joshua Bleiberg have concluded: “Even in the most optimistic scenario analysts predict that 3D printing could increase USPS revenues [only] about $1.743 billion. […] The projected annual revenue from 3D printing would only cover 35 percent of the agency’s annual net loss.”<br /><br />It seems it unlikely that the Postal Service will ever be “waving from such great heights” (to borrow the triumphant lyric from the band The Postal Service). Or, at least it seems more likely that if we notice anything stirring above us, it will be Amazon drones flying overhead, whether they are delivering packages or 3D printing materials to our homes, no matter how rural.<br /><br />http://www.forbes.com/sites/naomishavin/2014/07/23/the-u-s-postal-service-thinks-3d-printing-can-save-it/

3/4 inches thick over all - but 1 inch thick at corners.
each wood facing sides, top and bottom is 1 & 5/8 inches wide.
Print size is 10 & 3/4 inches wide X 15 & 3/4 inches tall.

Predominant colors are Old World Black and Red & parchment tones.
Print shows some age, with a few spots, etc., and the frame has only light signs of age/wear.
There is no hanging hardware on the back. There is a tiny hole in the top of the frame where there may have been some hanging hardware at one time.

PLEASE EXAMINE PHOTOS FOR DETAILS AND CONDITION.

Questions very welcomed, just ask by convo before you purchase.

SHIPPING: There is NO GLASS in this frame, no covering on the print. Because of the size, this item will be most economically shipped by USPS PARCEL POST (as the box will have to be rather larger than the edges of the frame) - and will be insured. The shipping cost will be $15.00 for USA shipping.

Special shipping requests or considerations (such as "expedited shipping" or international requests) MUST be asked about prior to purchase, in case there will be additional costs we must estimate and add to your total - just convo us! We're happy to hear from you.

OK, so occasional customer frustrations, and our own ongoing frustrations, have led us to a positive change in our shipping, effective today: All U.S. shipments of Real Deal Brazil products now will go FedEx Ground; no more USPS. This way, not only should packages reach farther distances faster (Andale! Andale!), but customers will also now receive package-tracking information on the day they order. Tracking numbers are shipping bliss!
My broken +ASUS Nexus 7 is back from ASUS following hosed internal storage and an RMA (https://plus.google.com/+ArtemRussakovskii/posts/RjsS6uAbgSJ). Yay!<br /><br />Overall, it took about 11 days from the day I shipped it off to ASUS with USPS ground to the day Fedex showed up, which is not bad at all.<br /><br />It powers on and works as expected, back to locked state as they had to replace the whole mainboard.<br /><br />I was afraid ASUS support and RMA procedures would be like dealing with Dell or Comcast (as opposed to returning to Google, which reportedly has good customer support - however, I couldn't do that since I bought from Staples), but I was pleasantly surprised this time around. No problems at all, the timeline was very reasonable, and the tablet is working once again. Kudos to +ASUS North America.
