The affordable maintenance, repair, and cleaning programs organized by Elite Swimming Pool & Spa Service allow individuals to enjoy owning a pool without having to put in manual labor themselves. Some pool owners may want to decommission their pool during the winter months, and there are some steps to take so as to ensure maximum cleanliness throughout the cold season. 1. First, consult your pool owner’s manual, if you have one. This will contain the most individualized information for your pool. 2. All water should be drained from the pool’s pump, filter, heater, hoses, pipes, and inline chlorinators. 3. Remove all in-pool machinery like automatic cleaners. 4. Install winterizing plugs to fill the skimmer, vacuum line, and return line in the pool. 5. Cover the pool with a solid pool cover so that no outside debris gets into the water. There is no need to add chemicals to the water if no foreign objects enter the pool. A more comprehensive winter program may be necessary depending on your type of pool and your climate. Be sure to consult a local service for more help if needed.
