City’s Lifeguards Make Waves At Annual Challenge Event<br /><br />Lifeguards from leisure centres across the city put their skills to the test to see who would be crowned Leeds's top poolside patrollers. The annual Leeds Lifeguard Challenge saw the team from Kirkstall Leisure Centre emerge as the overall winners after a day of competition which included first aid simulations and relay races. Now in its 19th year, the friendly contest is designed to help recognise the city's lifeguards while they practice their key skills and work as a team. Held at the John Charles Centre for Sport, the event saw ten teams from Aireborough, Armley, Holt Park, John Charles, John Smeaton, Kippax, Kirkstall, Pudsey, Rothwell and Scott Hall centres battle it out. Other winners on the day included Holt Park Active, who were victorious in a rope throw relay, and Scott Hall Leisure Centre, who were the best in the simulated pool incident. Mark Sugden, centre manager at Kirkstall Leisure Centre, said: “The team really enjoyed the day and we're all very proud that they were named overall winners. “It's great that they've got the recognition they deserve and also had to chance to work alongside teams from other centres and practice their skills.” Leeds City Council lifeguards undergo National Pool Lifeguard Qualification training which includes water rescue, spinal injury management, life support and first aid. The John Charles Centre was also named the Royal Life Saving Society's approved training centre of the year for 2013. Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council's executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills, said: “The Lifeguard Challenge is always a really fun and exciting day that gives our lifeguards a great chance to get together for a bit of friendly competition. “But it also highlights the important role they play in keeping thousands of swimmers across the city safe each and every day as they enjoy our pools and leisure centres. “Lifeguards have to be constantly alert and ready to act at any time and they're a real credit to the city. Congratulations to the team at Kirkstall Leisure Centre too on a well-deserved win.” For more information on Leeds's lifeguard training, visit: http://www.leeds.gov.uk/sports/Pages/Coach-education.aspx Source: http://www.yorkshiretimes.co.uk/<br />http://leedsinnews.com/citys-lifeguards-make-waves-at-annual-challenge-event-3/

Fan waterfalls are named for their shape. Water spreads out horizontally as it descends. Virgin Falls is a striking fan waterfall on Tofino Creek, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Frozen waterfalls are just what they sound like. For at least part of the year, the waterfall freezes. Mountaineers often climb frozen waterfalls as a challenging test of their skill. The Fang is a single pillar of ice in Vail, Colorado that vertically plunges more than 30 meters (100 feet).

Horsetail waterfalls maintain contact with the hard rock that underlies them. Reichenbach Falls, a fall on the Reichenbach Stream in Switzerland, is a horsetail waterfall where legendary detective Sherlock Holmes allegedly fell to his doom.

Multi-step waterfalls are a series of connected waterfalls, each with their own plunge pool. The breathtaking "falling lakes" of Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia, are a series of multi-step waterfalls.

Plunge waterfalls, unlike horsetail falls, lose contact with the hard rock. The tallest waterfall in Japan, Hannoki Falls, is a plunge waterfall that stands 497 meters (1,640 feet). Hannoki Falls is seasonally fed by snowmelt from the Tateyama Mountains.

Punchbowl waterfalls are characterized by wide pools at their base. Wailua Falls is a punchbowl waterfall on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Although the plunge pool is tranquil and popular for swimming, the area around Wailua Falls itself is dangerous.

The water flowing over segmented waterfalls separate as distinct streams. Huge outcroppings of hard rock separate the streams of Nigretta Falls, a segmented waterfall in Victoria, Australia, before they meet in a large plunge pool.

Case Study: Niagara Falls

The Niagara River has two falls, one in the U.S. state of New York and one in the province of Ontario, Canada. Each waterfall is less than 60 meters (200 feet) tall, but together they are more than a kilometer (.62 miles) wide.

Niagara and many other falls with large volumes of water are used to generate hydroelectric power. A tremendous volume of water flows over Niagara Falls, as much as 5,525 cubic meters (195,000 cubic feet) per second. Power stations upstream from the falls convert hydroelectric energy into electricity for residential and commercial use.

The U.S. and Canadian governments manage the Niagara River so carefully that it is possible for either country to "turn off" the falls. This is done at night, so as not to disturb the tourism industry, and the falls are never actually turned off, just slowed down. Water is diverted to canals and reservoirs, and the decreased flow allows engineers to check for erosion and other damage on the falls. U.S. and Canadian authorities also work together to ensure Niagara Falls doesn’t freeze in the winter, which would threaten power production.

Because waterfalls are barriers to navigation, canals are sometimes built to get around them. Niagara Falls prevents passage between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario on the Niagara River. In the 19th century, the Welland Canal was built to make passage between the two Great Lakes possible.

The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu. The Iguazu River rises near the city of Curitiba. For most of its course, the river flows through Brazil, however, most of the falls are on the Argentine side. Below its confluence with the San Antonio River, the Iguazu River forms the boundary between Argentina and Brazil.<br /><br />Another popular way of classifying waterfalls is by width. One of the widest waterfalls is Khone Phapheng Falls, Laos. At the Khone Phapheng Falls, the Mekong River flows through a succession of relatively shallow rapids. The width of the Khone Phapheng Falls is about 10,783 meters (35,376 feet).<br /><br />Waterfalls are also classified by height. Angel Falls, the world’s tallest waterfall, plummets 979 meters (3,212 feet) into a remote canyon in a rain forest in Venezuela. The water, from the Gauja River, often does not reach the bottom. The fall is so long, and so steep, that air pressure is stronger often than the water pressure of the falls. The water is turned to mist before it reaches the small tributary below.<br /><br />Types of Waterfalls<br />One of the most popular, if least scientific, ways to classify waterfalls is by type. A waterfall's type is simply the way the descends. Most waterfalls fit more than one category.<br /><br />A block waterfall descends from a wide stream. Niagara Falls, in the U.S. and Canada, is a block waterfall on the Niagara River.<br /><br />A cascade is a waterfall that descends over a series of rock steps. Monkey Falls, in the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park in Tamil Nadu, India, is a gently sloping cascade. The waterfall is safe enough for children to play in the water.<br /><br />A cataract is a powerful, even dangerous, waterfall. Among the widest and wildest of cataracts are the thundering waters of the Iguazu River on the border between Brazil and Argentina.<br /><br />A chute is a waterfall in which the stream passage is very narrow, forcing water through at unusually high pressure. Three Chute Falls is named for the three

We wanted to add a program very few other child care programs have in the whole country……A swimming pool so children could have fun and learn to be safe in the water! Kathy being very cautious and conservative could not imagine entrusting children safety to anyone but Shaun so what did he do but spend endless hours, and grueling tests to become a certified lifeguard and pool inspector!!! http://ow.ly/i/7hQ4H http://ow.ly/i/7hQ51
Water Balance is Key!<br /><br />The number one cause of equipment failure and surface corrosion in pools and spas is water. Knowing what properly balanced water is and how to achieve it can be tricky at first. Lee Joseph Inc. offers free water testing and training in our shop so don’t be scared….we’re here for you!
Today's wet weather in Perth acts as a timely reminder that winter can be a great opportunity for refreshing the water in your pool.<br /><br />If your pool is showing high levels of stabiliser or calcium hardness then the winter rains are ideal for helping to reduce them without having to turn on the tap - saving you money while also helping the environment.<br /><br />If you know there a few days of rain ahead you can simply backwash your pool to lower the water level and then let the rain refill it with fresh water. Remember, when backwashing don't allow the water level to drop below the skimmer inlet or pump damage can occur.<br /><br />Continuing this process each time it rains over the winter months will allow you to gradually reduce the levels of hardness and stabiliser in your water so they will be perfect for summer.<br /><br />Of course you should always monitor the chemical levels as you go and the best way is a free extensive computerised water test at your nearest Pool Shop Group store.  The guys are more than happy to advise on the best winter maintenance and management tools for your pool and equipment.<br /><br />www.thepoolshopgroup.com.au
Swimming can get these levels in the right balance thanks to its aerobic power, which has been proven to raise HDL levels. And for every 1 percent increase in HDL cholesterol, the risk of dying from heart disease drops by 3.5 percent [source: Bobalik].

What's more, studies have shown that aerobic exercises like swimming can also keep your endothelium in good shape. What's your endothelium, you might wonder? It's the thin layer of cells that lines your arteries, and it tends to lose flexibility as you age. In one study of people in their sixties who participated in aerobic exercise, however, endothelium function was found to be equal to those 30 to 40 years younger. The theory is that because aerobic exercise causes arteries to expand and contract, it keeps them fit [source: Bobalik].

When it comes to warding off diabetes, there are few prescriptions as powerful as aerobic exercise. In one study, men reduced their risk of diabetes by an average of 6 percent for every 500 calories a week they burned in aerobic exercise [source: Bobalik]. With just 30 minutes of breaststroke swimming three times per week, you could burn 900 calories -- reducing your risk of contracting type 2 diabetes by over 10 percent. A study that focused on women also suggested the same benefits for the fairer sex: Vigorous exercise just once a week (like the kind derived from a robust swimming session) lowered their risk of contracting type 2 diabetes by 16 percent over inactive women [source: Bobalik].

And, if you already have type 1 diabetes, the aerobic benefits of swimming can be particularly helpful, as this type of exercise can increase insulin sensitivity [source: University of Maryland].
According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetics should get 150 minutes per week, spread across at least three days per week, of moderate-intensity physical activity like swimming to aid glycemic control.

http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/aging/retirement/10-health-benefits-of-swimming.htm#page=9">10 Health Benefits of Swimming<br /><br />Ever see a flabby dolphin or a weak-looking competitive swimmer? We didn't think so. That's because swimming is a great way to increase muscular strength and muscle tone -- especially compared to several other aerobic exercises.<br /><br />Swimming offers something no other aerobic exercise does: the ability to work your body without harsh impact to your skeletal system. When the human body is submerged in water, it automatically becomes lighter.<br /><br />When immersed to the waist, your body bears just 50 percent of its weight; dunk yourself to the chest and that number reduces to around 25 to 35 percent; with water all the way to the neck, you only have to bear 10 percent of your own weight. The other 90 percent is handled by the pool.<br /><br />This means that the pool provides an ideal place to work stiff muscles and sore joints, especially if you're overweight or suffer from arthritis.<br /><br />In its recommendation for the right types of exercise for people with arthritis, the Arthritis Foundation suggests those that stretch muscles, those that strengthen muscles, and those that provide an aerobic workout. A few laps in the pool combine all three!<br /><br />If the pool is heated, so much the better for arthritis sufferers, as the warm water can help loosen stiff joints. In fact, people with rheumatoid arthritis receive greater benefits to their health after participating in hydrotherapy than with other activities. It's also been proven that water-based exercise improves the use of affected joints and decreases pain from osteoarthritis<br /><br />There's yet another bonus of a watery workout: Swimming has also been shown to improve bone strength -- especially in post-menopausal women<br /><br />Unlike exercise machines in a gym that tend to isolate one body part at a time (like a bicep curl machine, for example), swimming puts the body through a broad range of motion that helps joints and ligaments stay loose and flexible. The arms move in wide arcs, the hips are engaged as the legs scissor through the water, and the head and spine twist from side to side. Plus, with every stroke, as you reach forward, you're lengthening the body, which not only makes it more efficient in the water, it also helps give you a good stretch from head to toe.<br /><br />To improve your flexibility beyond the natural gains you'll make by swimming, you might also want to finish your pool workout with a series of gentle stretches. The support of the water should help you maintain positions involving tricky balance -- such as a quadriceps stretch -- for longer periods of time<br /><br />n addition to toning visible muscles like pectorals, triceps and quads, swimming also helps improve the most important muscle in our bodies: the heart.<br />Because swimming is an aerobic exercise, it serves to strengthen the heart, not only helping it to become larger, but making it more efficient in pumping -- which leads to better blood flow throughout your body. Research also shows that aerobic exercise can combat the body's inflammatory response as well -- a key link in the chain that can lead to heart disease [source: Columbia University Medical Center].<br />If that's not enough to get you moving in the pool, the American Heart Association reports that just 30 minutes of exercise per day, such as swimming, can reduce coronary heart disease in women by 30 to 40 percent. Additionally, an analysis by the Annals of Internal Medicine showed that regular aerobic exercise could reduce blood pressure [source: Bobalik].<br /><br />For some time, some people thought that because water is generally cooler than our body temperatures, it would be difficult to lose weight with a water workout. Like many old ideas about exercise, this has since been revised: Swimming is now recognized as one of the biggest calorie burners around, and it's great for keeping weight under control.<br /><br />The exact number of calories you burn, of course, depends on your own physiology and the intensity with which you exercise, but as a general rule, for every 10 minutes of swimming: the breast stroke will burn 60 calories; the backstroke torches 80; the freestyle lights up 100; and the butterfly stroke incinerates an impressive 150.<br /><br />To boost the calorie-burning component of swimming, consider using intervals in which you work your hardest for short bursts and then recover. One way to structure this kind of workout would be to swim 50 yards (45.7 meters) then rest for 10 seconds, then 100 yards (91.4 meters) with a 10-second rest, then 150 yards (137.1 meters) -- all the way up to 300 yards (274.3 meters) with rests in between. When you reach 300 yards, reverse the pattern [source: Petterson].<br /><br />Unlike exercising in the often dry air of the gym, or contending with seasonal allergies or frigid winter air, swimming provides the chance to work out in moist air, which can help reduce exercise-induced asthma symptoms.<br /><br />Not only can pool workouts help you avoid asthma attacks if you're prone to them, some studies have shown that swimming can actually improve the condition overall. According to a study published in the scholarly journal, Respirology, when a group of kids completed a six-week swimming program, they saw improvements in symptom severity, snoring, mouth-breathing, and hospitalizations and emergency room visits [source: Science Daily]. What's more, the health benefits were still apparent a year after the swimming program had ended [source: Physorg].<br /><br />Even those without asthma could benefit from swimming, say the study's authors, as the exercise can increase lung volume and teach proper breathing techniques.<br /><br />Being healthy is more about having the right ratio of cholesterol in your body than just having low amounts of the stuff in your blood. Specifically, it's beneficial to have higher levels of Swimming can get these levels in the right balance thanks to its aerobic power, which has been proven to raise HDL levels. And for every 1 percent increase in HDL cholesterol, the risk of dying from heart disease drops by 3.5 percent [source: Bobalik].

How to exercise in a chair or wheelchair<br />Chair-bound exercises are ideal for people with lower body injuries or disabilities, those with weight problems or diabetes, and frail seniors looking to reduce their risk of falling. Cardiovascular and flexibility chair exercises can help improve posture and reduce back pain, while any chair exercise can help alleviate body sores caused by sitting in the same position for long periods. They’re also a great way to squeeze in a workout while you’re watching TV.<br />• If possible, choose a chair that allows you to keep your knees at 90 degrees when seated. If you’re in a wheelchair, securely apply the brakes or otherwise immobilize the chair.<br />• Try to sit up tall while exercising and use your abs to maintain good posture.<br />• If you suffer from high blood pressure, check your blood pressure before exercising and avoid chair exercises that involve weights.<br />• Test your blood sugar before and after exercise if you take diabetes medication that can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).<br />Cardiovascular exercise in a chair or wheelchair<br />Wheelchair sports<br />If you want to add competition to your workouts, several organizations offer adaptive exercise programs and competitions for sports such as basketball, track and field, volleyball, and weightlifting. See Resources section below.<br />Chair aerobics, a series of seated repetitive movements, will raise your heart rate and help you burn calories, as will many strength training exercises when performed at a fast pace with a high number of repetitions. In fact any rapid, repetitive movements offer aerobic benefits and can also help to loosen up stiff joints.<br />• Wrap a lightweight resistance band under your chair (or bed or couch, even) and perform rapid resistance exercises, such as chest presses, for a count of one second up and two seconds down. Try several different exercises to start, with 20 to 30 reps per exercise, and gradually increase the number of exercises, reps, and total workout time as your endurance improves.<br />• Simple air-punching, with or without hand weights, is an easy cardio exercise from a seated position, and can be fun when playing along with a Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360 video game.<br />• Many swimming pools and health clubs offer pool-therapy programs with access for wheelchair users. If you have some leg function, try a water aerobics class.<br />• Some gyms offer wheelchair-training machines that make arm-bicycling and rowing possible. For a similar exercise at home, some portable pedal machines can be used with the hands when secured to a table in front of you.

The Hampton Springs Hotel was built in 1908 and was destroyed by fire in 1954. The hotel was world renowned for its sulphur springs and baths known for their healing and medicinal powers. The luxurious hotel boasted lush gardens with elaborate fountains and planters. The resort had a covered pool with foot baths fed by the springs, a golf course, tennis courts, stables, casino, grand ballroom, outdoor dance pavilion, and railroad depot. The nine-hole golf course was among the first in the region. The hotel had its own bottling plant and shipped the healing sulphur water nationwide. It also had its own power plant and the majority of the food served in the dining room was grown and raised at the hotel farm. The hotel had a private hunting and fishing lodge on Spring Creek six miles from the hotel site and an excursion boat with a covered launch. From the mid 1930s to mid 40s the hotel served as barracks for military personnel testing aircraft at Perry-Foley Airport in nearby Perry. Archaeological excavations here revealed the formation of the hotel and outbuildings.

Dear Pool Guy;<br />We want to remodel our entire backyard including our pool by adding in some features like a firepit.  We don’t know where to start and can’t afford a landscape architect.  Can you give us a hint on how to get started?<br />Signed,<br />Design Challenged<br />Dear Design Challenged;<br />Of course, outdoor living design can be as varied as designing home interiors, but I can give you some hints to help get you started.<br />Your first step is to step back and consider your lifestyle in terms of your outdoor living area.  Do you like to entertain?  How many parties a year or a month?  How many people on average?  Or do you prefer a quieter life style and enjoy a backyard retreat approach?  Wish for an area where you can relax and read?  Maybe, you are not planning on spending much time outdoors but want something to add beauty to your home and future resell value.  Have answers to these questions before moving forward.<br />Next is to create a wants/needs analysis that you can do by yourself or with the entire family.  This is not the design stage, only a simple list. This is the time to let imaginations go wild.  You can edit later.  Throw out the ideas no matter how crazy they may appear at first.  Don’t shoot anything down.  A rock grotto.  A water slide.  It doesn’t matter – just put it on the list.  It can be fun if you have a white or chalk board so the family can go crazy and yell out ideas to be jotted down as you go.  If not, a simple piece of paper and pencil will work too.  Or a computer with a projector – best to see the ideas as they are put on the list.<br />To help direct the ideas, you can break them into a couple of groups; Remodel and Add new.<br />Examples of remodel:  refinish pool, tile, coping, deck overlay, new equipment equipment, replace outdoor furniture, etc.<br />Examples of adding something new:  firepit, outdoor kitchen, fireplace, solar, pizza oven, water feature, fire bowl, add a spa to pool, rock work, rock slide, new deck to name just a few.<br />After you have exhausted all ideas, go back through your list and mark which items are needs (i.e. you may need to replaster the pool) vs. wants(firepit).  Number both lists from high (must have or really, really want) to low (can live without if we can’t afford).  Don’t cross anything off the list – there is no need; those items which seem out of reach will simply be low on the list.  Then, as you design and budget, you can refer back to this list for guidance and help to get estimates.<br />If you feel you need help in this stage, grab some outdoor remodeling magazines for inspiration before getting started.  Another suggestion that my wife and I used to do; go visit model homes for sale.  Those backyards are designed by professionals and can give you some new ideas.<br />Your next step is to realize that backyards or outdoor living spaces are very similar to indoor living spaces.  In homes, you typically have a kitchen, dining room, living room, den, bedroom and possibly a playroom.  The same can apply to the outdoor living space.  The pool is the playroom.  The barbecue island is the kitchen.  Your dining room is the outside table.  The firepit is the den.  Break up the space into these separate areas and you will see how much easier it is to design.<br />If you entertain a lot, consider having separate areas for guests to gather as people tend to group; a firepit on one side and, possibly, a fireplace on the other or the outdoor kitchen.  Leave enough space so the groups don’t have to talk over each other.  If you don’t have the room for all the choices, pick your top features.  Also, consider traffic patterns such as bringing food from your indoor kitchen to your outdoor dining room – you don’t want that to be a long trip if you can help it.  Usually, we recommend not placing outdoor kitchens next to a wall of the home; you are only reducing possible seating areas and blocking traffic patterns.  Set them in the middle of an area.<br />Next is to view your outdoor space from many angles, both outside and inside the home.  Starting inside the home, take a look out at the backyard.  What areas do you see?  Which windows will you be looking out the most?  What would you prefer to see?  Sometimes, by conducting this exercise, you will find that moving a backyard feature a few feet in a new direction will make a huge difference in the view from indoors.  By performing this exercise, you can prevent an issue later on where you might see only half of a Firepit from the kitchen window, rather than the full firepit centered.<br />Walk around the outside with the same thinking in mind.  How easily will it be to walk around?  Will you Easy access to the door of the house?  Are the areas well defined?  Which direction do you want guests to travel?<br />Finally, consider your material and color choices carefully.  Sometimes, to create a feeling that the inside merges to the outside, you may want to continue materials like an interior flagstone floor to the outside deck.  You may also want to match other materials and colors to the outside or contrast.  There are no wrong answers; this is completely subjective.  Just consider all your options.<br />The final step is to start getting line item quotes from remodeling companies so you can begin measuring your list against your budget.  That may be the time when you have to reduce down your list to something affordable.<br /><br />#poolremodeling #poolplastering
Diving Into The Deep<br /><br />I've mentioned before that I've notice an unusual pattern. As the days, months, and years go by, my intuition seems to be shortening in length, almost as though some event is approaching. Initially I could intuitively see things up to even two years in advance before others, now it seems like I intuitively notice something and only a few weeks go by before someone else notices the same thing or I find it written in a new book by someone.<br /><br />While I'm still not sure what's happening here, my assumption is that it's not me that's changing so much as the world around me. In effect, others are awakening, becoming self-aware, and are beginning to see some of the same things that I've been seeing for a while. As I told someone else a few weeks back in a conversation, just look at some of the stuff I wrote on Google Plus a year ago. A lot of my words at the time seemed absurd (i.e. recruiting someone without the skills or experience) but are now a reality (i.e. Google looks at expertise last when hiring).<br /><br />This week in particular, I've noticed this pattern accelerate almost exponentially. In fact, it has accelerated so much that from my perspective, it's not so much if someone will believe what I'm still holding back, it's more a question of when will someone say what I'm holding back. In effect, it seems like people are no longer afraid of being seen as crazy anymore. They're making the leap.<br /><br />Immersing Yourself<br /><br />The metaphor that I've mentioned before that best describes this is learning to swim. Right now, many of us are testing the waters. For example, even though I myself have experienced and written things that have inspired others, I feel like I'm still just wading in the kiddie pool, just getting my ankles wet. And based upon the conversation with some others, I know they feel the same way. They're ready to go to the deep end, dive in, and immerse themselves completely.<br /><br />And just like learning to swim, this experience is both scary and exhilarating at the same time at first. It requires letting go and completely believing and trusting in yourself. In effect, it takes courage to playfully make that leap. But I'm ready now, just as many others appear ready as well. And of course the more of us that do get in, the more of those that will want to get in.<br /><br />Image via +Elena Kalis

Manufactured from  a cleansed glass pearl material, the glass pearls are a new generation of swimming pool filter media providing superior water clarity  Its spherical shape results in a reduced adhesion of particulate matter, reducing backwashing requirements. This results in easier and quicker backwashing cycles of the swimming pool filter resulting is a lower usage of water and time savings.

Sparkling Water

With a small size of only 0.6mm to 0.8mm. Its small particle size allows for a finer filter and makes for less frequent backwashing of the media filter. Swimming pool sand and media filters running correctly can filter down to particle sizes less than 5 microns.

Water Savings

As mentioned the glass beads are smooth in shape and results in a low amount of friction. This reduces pool filter backwash requirements. When used properly the glass media swimming pool filters may save up to 20% of water usage requirements for backwash cycles.

Save Water

Glass Media is manufactured from glass and as a result is chemically inert. Tests of many glass media types have found them to filter to a level suitable for Australian Drinking Water Standards.

As a result of these types of technical advantages making their way into the swimming pool industry, you the swimming pool owner is able to take advantage of the various saving which the use of these types of advances allow for your swimming pool and the equipment related to it.

So if you wish to have a pool that is able to have that final sparkle, consider the use of Swimming Pool Glass Filter Media. Its inert properties, fine particle filtration and longevity of life in the pool make for a, in term long term, very cost effective solution for the filtration of your swimming pool.">Glass Media is the newest generation of sand replacement materials for swimming pools sand filters.<br /><br />Traditionally in the past the sand filter (now commonly referred to as Media Filter) for the swimming pool has used a Kiln Dried Sand. Now with increased performance requirements for a cleaner pool, and the addition of newer pool water treatments such as Magnesium Salts which can only be used in a pool which uses the Glass Medias’ for filtration.<br /><br />Glass Pool Filter Media is a 2 part filter media which consists of a course glass bead to be put in the bottom of the filter, this forms 25% to 30% of the total bead weight. I was in the exam center today, and I'd sculled nearly half a bottle of water prior to starting the test.  Was going good until about half-way through, and I paused for a second...
1: Taiga
I think the taiga is one of the most seen biomes. Taigas snow instead of rain. Taigas have a bunch of trees in them, tall trees that resemble spruce trees. Wolves spawn mainly in taigas. Most passive mobs spawn here.

2: Jungle
A jungle is a very crowded biome, and the only biome to have bushes. All the plants and grass are very bright there. Jungle trees can be tall like a taiga tree, or really tall. The tall ones usually are around 2x2x25. Jungles also have ferns, and mushrooms can also often be found there. Ocelots only spawn in jungles. Jungle temples can also (very rarely) be found in them. Most passive mobs spawn here.

3: Plains
The plains are wide, flat grasslands. Often there are lots of animals. Horses and donkeys also spawn only in plains. Sometimes there can be small hills also. Plains villages can spawn in plains too.

4: Desert
The desert is like plains, but with sand.  No passive mobs spawn there. As of 1.6, water pools will not spawn in deserts, but lava pools will. Desert temples (which are trapped with TNT) and desert villages will spawn in deserts. It does not rain in the desert.

5: Snow
Snow biomes are just like taigas, but without the trees. Sometimes snow biomes have mountains in them, which i call a sub-biome that's called "icy hills". It also snows instead of rains. most passive mobs spawn here.

6: Mountain
Mountain biomes are just as it seems. (actually called "extreme hills") Most passive mobs spawn here. They are incredible, huge mountains made of grass, dirt, and stone.

7: Mushroom Island
Mushroom Island biomes spawn in or by the ocean. Instead of grass they have Mycelium. The only mob that will spawn there are Mooshrooms (including hostile mobs). Giant mushrooms and small mushrooms spawn natrually here. There sometimes can be Mycelium mountains.

8: Ocean
Ocean biomes are the largest and most common biomes. They are just flat water. Islands sometimes spawn in them. Squids of course also spawn in them.

9: River
River biomes often separate land biomes. Squids spawn in them of course. River biomes are just water.

10: Swamp
The swamp biome is a murky biome that is usually near an ocean. They have water, and they are the only biome to spawn lilypads naturally. Witch huts can be found in swamp biomes, along with mushrooms and oak trees with vines. The grass in swamp biomes is a dark murky color. Most passive mobs spawn in the swamp.

11. Forest
The forest biome is a biome that is full of birch and oak trees. Most passive mobs spawn here. Some forests can get so dark that mobs spawn at day.

12: Nether
the "Nether" biome is actually called hell. Of course you enter it through the portal. They are made of netherrack, soul sand, and nether quartz. No regular mobs spawn there. There is lots of lava. Ghasts, Wither skeletons, Blazes, Magma cubes, and Zombie Pigmen spawn here.  No ores except Nether Quartz spawn here.

13:  The End
The End biome is a floating island made of Endstone. It has obsidian pillars with an ender crystal on top. The ender dragon and endermen spawn here.

City’s Lifeguards Make Waves...

Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls, I...

Iguazu Falls<br /><br /><br />Iguazu Falls, Iguazú Falls, Iguassu Falls, or Iguaçu Falls (Portuguese: Cataratas do Iguaçu [kataˈɾatɐʒ du iɡwaˈsu]; Spanish: Cataratas del Iguazú [kataˈɾatas ðel iɣwaˈsu]; Guarani: Chororo Yguasu [ɕoɾoɾo ɨɣʷasu]) are waterfalls of the Iguazu River on the border of the Argentina province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Paraná. Three Chute Falls is named for the three
Fan waterfalls are named for their shape.

Pictured: Take a sneak peek inside Tough Mudder as the course takes shape<br /><br />Construction of the North West Tough Mudder obstacle course is underway and the M.E.N. was invited to take a look. Next week, over 13,000 brave souls will attempt to complete the extreme course, pushing themselves to their physical and mental limits. It takes two weeks to build around 20 giant obstacles, which are designed to test participants’ bravery, team-work, physical strength and their biggest fears. The military-style course takes in the picturesque Cholmondeley estate in Cheshire and to complete it, ‘Mudders’ must get through 11-miles of dunking themselves in ice cold water, getting electrocuted and trawling through thick mud. Tough Mudder, which is the brainchild of Brit Will Dean who thought up the idea during his studies at Harvard Business Enterprise College, is clearly much more than an assault course. It is more comparable to physical Royal Marines training than the assault course in the Kypton Factor.
